LoL Probably true, but I was watching it on my 15" PC monitor so I needed a better look. It's really kinda sad to hear Dana telling Matt he is the best champion ever after a display like that.

Oh, and this screen name is not for BJ Penn, this has been my screen name for a few years on various forums before I ever heard of Penn.

There is a rumour on Sherdog that BJ separated his ribs at the end of the second round against Hughes and that was the reason that BJ had such a terrible third round. Supposedly, this has been confirmed by an insider to the Penn camp.

This makes sense to me because I couldn't understand how BJ would go from being so dominating in the first two rounds to not even being able to fight or defend himself at all in the third.

It was a great fight and I was really impressed with BJ's Jiu Jitsu skills. Matt never managed to do anything to him until the third round - of course, once BJ was defenseless, Hughes pounded him pretty intensely.

He did get socked straight in the eyeball though with the knuckles though. I thought it was a severely b**** move on his part to lobby for the poke stoppage in that instance.

I also agree with the OP in that I do not like Hughes' attitude at all, and this episode only furthered my view in this matter. I am not saying Penn could have won from that point, but it is quite obvious with some slow-mo in a high res environment that Hughes just pulled a complete b**** move.
i was at a bar watching this on like 60" inch plasma high defintion tv's and everyone in there noticed that on the first replay....and if matt really was poked in the eye that bad he would have taken more time to recover.. also right after you could see a lil welt under his eye

Wow, what a bunch of Matt haters. All I have read from this place is how Matt was owned in this round and that round and Matt's not impressive. But Guess what, he WINS. Impressive or not, at the end of the match, Hughes' hand is raised time and time again. An ugly win is just that, A WIN.

I suspected that he was hurt because his hands were so low when he came out for the 3rd round. That is usually a sign that a fighter is injured on the body somewhere. When a fighters hand s begin to drop during a round then you might consider fatigue a factor. I didn't see any shots by Matt that could have caused the injury but maybe that funky triangle he tried caused it.

I agree! How many fights has Fedor Emalienko won after being "owned" for a little bit. GSP was right to make that comment though. Nobody wants to see best friends fight.

I haven't seen any official confirmation as of yet. Apparently, one Sherdog member supposedly has inside information from the Penn camp but as of this time, you would still have to say its a rumour. If I see anything on this, I will post it immediately.

But..it's Sherdog. I'll believe it when it's confirmed by a REAL source.
