I am surprised people aren't giving Matt more credit. I've been impressed with most of his wins. If BJ tore some cartlidge it was because of Matt. BJ landes some nice jabs and almost got Matt once after the eye poke(was in the eye if you slow it down enough) although the eye poke did not affect the fight once they got going again. Matt did his thing and really punished BJ in that last round. It was an exciting fight and I expect the same in the St. P fight. Oh, and St. P only sd that about not being impressed because he was trying to sell the fight. That's why he aplogized after Matt seemed to get ticked off.

Saying he gets owned in ever fight and pulls off a win out of no where is way off. I mean he may be just a GnP fighter but did you see his 2nd fight with Frank Trigg? That was a very exciting fight; however I do think Hughes win streak will end very soon. GSP will be the next WW champ!

Threadstarter = unimpressive

lame thread.

Hughes pulled out a tough W, and finished a guy that GSP couldn't.

So please tell me then; who has been impressive?

I like how people are still trying to say that Matt thought his fight was impressive. I never heard him say it was impressive. He was mad at Pierre for being a b****, not because he thought he was impressive. The french idiot came in trying to sell his fight, and sounded stupid. Did anyone say they were impressed? Nope. If anyone has any interview or Vid of Hughes saying he thought his fight was impressive, then so be it. People are too ignorant to see and hear what was said or done, so they draw their own conclusions. Penn sucks after a couple rounds, so who cares how bad someone looked the first 2 rounds. If they win, they win. Hughes won by beating on Penn. He did not eek out a decision that could have been controversial, he won by beating him. If people say BJ, owned Matt in the first 2 rounds, that is funny to me, because he must not have owned him that much if he still lost. Yes he won the rounds, but hardly owned anyone if he did not stop them.

The idiot is you my friend. You've gone off on a little verbal hissy fit like some whiny teenage girl.

You really think that whole GSP altercation wasn't staged?

Did you see the post-fight interview with Hughes?

Well if you did, you would have seen Matt and GSP shaking hands, laughing, and smiling. Its called marketing. GSP has gone on the record many times claiming his respect and admiration for Hughes and when Matt just finished taking a verbal jab at Penn with his 5 rds comment; isn't it a tad bit hypocritical to get your panties in a knot? Besides Matt saying in many of pre-fight interviews that he has no interest in fighting GSP and borderline dismissing him as a threat, why would you whine even if it were real?

Now to bring this point home so that you may or may not get it. Do you think it was coincidence that nearly the same scenerio happened in the PPV just before this one? Unless you lived under a rock or were a complete n00b you would of known that Chuck has gone the record many many times saying he wants to fight Wanderlei; not so much as sneeze in Tito's direction. But all of sudden that fight can't happen and Rogan asks a question that sounded straight off a teleprompter with something to the effect of what motivates you to keep fighting? Well, let's see.....for the last couple+ months it was Wanderlei this, Wanderlei that.....but suddenly for some reason he says its Tito; and holy shit would you beleive it Tito is in the crowd.....and guess what he's gunna come running in the ring!! Thank you WWE *ahem* I mean Zuffa for that blatant PR move.....its stunning how GSP (the notorious self-promoter and shameless shit talker ) finds his way into the octagon and mumbles out some awkward, uncharacteristic "diss", only to 2 secs later smile and try to explain it to the guy....and again later is the post-fight interview; wake up.

Wow you got me there. I am an idiot. Still doesn't answer why people say Hughes thought he was impressive. What is a noob anyway? Is that some ignorant computer talk? I like how you talk about it being staged. The comment was stupid and didn't sell anything. It was ignorant. Maybe only because Pierre is not good with his talks, I don't know. It came off as stupid and didn't really do anything to sell PPV's. If Hughes was in there saying he just killed BJ and Pierre was next, it would have been better. Then would have sold some tickets.

matt was not impressive at all, get over it, penn was injured and on top of that hughes was sitting on penn's arm so he could not move (its very legal so im not saying he didnt anything wrong) but with a busted rib and matts weight no one can get out of there, i have been in that position at the gym many times.

If you want to say matt fought smart then yeah ill give you that because he did the only thing he could do. Matt just laid his big monkey body on penn probably really messing up his rib even more and cutting of his air and getting in some elbows.

thats something that someone with no fighting skills or experience can do, you still find that impressive? More so then Bj making matt stammer wiht a punch, and then taking his back when matt has the top position with the greatest of ease and almost getting that RNC?

not to mention the armbar/triangle attempt all on someone bigger and stronger, screw that weight class BS it doesnt take an expert to see matt has some size on BJ

Why did you bring up the rib injury so many times? BJ did not use that as an excuse for losing the fight so why are you doing that for him. And Hughes laying his “monkey body” on him was not the only thing he could have done, he was picking BJ apart on the feet in the 3rd round so BJ tried to take him down and wound up with Hughes on top of him. Don’t get me wrong I like BJ it would not have hurt my feeling at all if he would have won Saturday.

I thought you guys would want to read this - taken from BJ Penn's web site.
__________________________________________________ __

After just arriving back in Hawaii, BJ talks about the outcome of his tough UFC 63 title fight against Matt Hughes which took place yesterday evening at Arrowhead Pond in Anahiem CA.

Interviewer:
So BJ how are you doing?

BJ:
I just got back to Hawaii. I'm resting up, I have some injuries. Other than that I'm okay.

Interviewer:
So you just fought Matt Hughes. Could you walk us through the first round?

BJ:
I felt good, I was happy that I was defending Matt's takedowns. I could see that Matt improved his standup. I wish I tried some takedowns, but other than that I was happy with it.

Interviewer:
You say he improved his standup. How?

BJ:
He was dodging my punches well, and he had a good jab.

Interviewer:
What did you think of his takedowns?

BJ:
His takedowns were good and strong, exactly what I expected.

Interviewer:
Take us through the second round.

BJ:
I felt great going in, Matt started trying to take me down from my right leg, it's something I expected he might do. He got me down against the fence, but I was thinking about this position alot and I was ready. When he went for a big elbow, he missed and I capitalized and started going for his back. At this moment, when I was making the turn towards his back, I felt my ribs seperate on my right side. Although I didn't know the severity of the situation. I was thinking I have to finish him now because I knew something was wrong. Matt defended himself well and got through the round. When I got up to walk to my corner, I knew something was wrong, but I didn't want to talk about it with my corner. I wanted to be the champ. I wanted to keep fighting.

Interviewer:
What about round 3?

BJ:
I remember standing up out of the corner in pain. But I was thinking, "Earn your title this is what you have to do to get your belt back, fight through the pain". I knew the oppurtunity I had with getting this fight, especially after losing my last fight. I wasn't going to quit on the corner. I kept going because I honestly believed it was destiny. When me and Matt were boxing I felt like I couldn't breathe and had no mobility in my core. But I kept thinking something good is going to happen. When Matt started dominating the stand up I tried for a takedown. I had nothing and pulled to guard. I felt like I couldn't do anything on the ground. But I was still positive. Matt hit me in the ribs from half guard. The pain was so excruciating I had to use my far hand to block it. I would rather Matt pass my guard and punch my face the hit my ribs. When Matt was in his favorite position that he likes. I was still thinking I was going to win somehow. Big John gave me plenty of time. I practiced defending against that position with flexibility, but I had none with my core. Even when Big John stopped the fight, I was still so positive I thought I escaped. Congratulations to Matt, he is a great fighter. It's not his fault that that happened, he fought like the champion he is. He deserved the victory.

Interviewer:
So how are your ribs doing now?

BJ:
There just hurting, I couldn't sleep last night, I couldn't lay down, Every time I breathe it expands my ribcage and aggrevates my ribs.

Interviewer:
How do you think your conditioning was for this fight?

BJ:
I was training great. I trained 5 to 6 rounds a couple times a week. I was also doing explosive cardio and getting proper rest.

Interviewer:
Anything to say to your fans?

BJ:
Thanks for your support. I already got a lot of emails from my fans. Thank you very much.
Keep checking my site and I'll keep you posted.

Interviewer:
So what is next for BJ Penn?

BJ:
I've got to take care of my ribs, so I'm taking 2 months off, and my suspension for the TKO. I talked to Dana and he said to give him a call when I'm ready to fight. It takes a long time to prepare for these fights and I'm very disappointed I got injured like that. I gotta sit down for a couple weeks and clear my head and see where I am in fighting.

Bro, I've been a Baby Jay fan for a long time and of course BJ impressed me more then Matt. The kid is phenominal, what more can you say then cardio (j/k...lol)?

So far there is no medical evidence to support BJ's injury claim and like I said GSP was unable to put away a gased and "injured" (Penn claimed his hand was broken) BJ but Matt just pwnd the shit out of him....besides no one had KO'd BJ prior to that. I don't like Hughes and I hope GSp rapes him but I have to give credit where its due.

As for Rockbass03, you didn't explain why it is you haven't made the same criticisms of Matt being disrespectful to BJ and GSP......I forgot it only counts when you have a french accent. USA USA USA!!!!!
