and yes cardio cardio cardio, its the main thing we focus on in the gym, im nto saying matt doesnt deserve the win, but it was not impressive, is everyone forgetting what that means?

Its definition certenly is not, Matt Hughes sucks and should die.

and my entire post was ntot o make excuses for BJ it was to prove tht matt was not impresive or exciting, the fight was very very exciting for me but all of that came from bj and what he was doing, not what matt was doing, or rather, not doing.

i was not impressed with his performance.. for the amount of Hype that Matt hughes gets,.. i dont think he is an exciting fighter.. it does not impress me..

and he finished a guy that GSP cvouldnt yea... but GSP took down a guy that Matt Hughes couldnt.. so ugh yea

and who has been impressive... Mirko Cro Cop..actually makes the fight exciting to watch..

matt hughes is one of ther better fighters too watch, idk wut fights u guys ben watchin but hes had a lot of great fights, especially saturday when he made that spic eat about 30 punches. GSP saying he wusnt impressed, lol i've yet to see one fight by GSP that wus half has impressive as 75% of Hughes fights. I hope hughes beats his gay little french- canadian ass again. canadians suck.

I must admit that I was impressed with your reasoning. NOT.

I won't argue that Hughes is not a good fighter and has not had good fights in the past. Some of his body slams in his earlier fights are very impressive but he seems to lately not to be able to execute as well as before.

In addition, he has been tremendously successful, moreso than any other welterweight - you just have to look at his record - I think he's had 20 successful title defenses now but he's also been lucky as well (but that's part of MMA fighting too).

Carlos Newton choked him out with a triangle choke while Hughes had him pressed up against the top of the octogon but was knocked out when Hughes collapsed to the ground causing Newton' s head to smash into the ground. Hughes woke up first and won the fight.

Hughes is also very tough. BJ came close to a triangle choke in the 2nd round but Hughes managed to weather the storm. But I think the argument that people are presenting here is that his win did not seem impressive .... but nevertheless he still did win so you have to give him credit for that.

BTW I believe thatr BJ is Haiwaiian and I don't think French Canadians have a monopoloy on being gay. Personally, I'd like to be ther when you told GSP he's gay.

To be completely fair... I think Hughes falls into your typical Milletich camp mold. He's not overtly talented, or skilled (don't get me wrong, he's very skilled, just seemingly not on the scale of his opponents on paper), yet works his ass off day in and day out and finds ways to win...

No matter how lackluster or mundane they may seem to be. Hell, Pat Milletich himself was greatly criticized of the same thing. Sure it's not going to occupy huge amounts of time on the HL Reels, but it will keep that belt around his waist for a long time (as it already has).

EXACTLY!!! I was just about to say the same thing. I thought this was a great forum, but it seems there is some ignorance here, and im not trying to step on anyones toes. One thing i dont get, if hughes is such a not so good fighter, how come he has teh belt around his waist, STILL????? I cant get over some peoples attitudes on the subject, its just crazy.... Now back to the regular soap opera........

The point is, Hughes could not do SHIT to BJ until BJ was injured. That should say something. 100% Hughes couldn't beat 100% BJ. 100% Hughes ahd to wait until BJ was at about 50%-75% before he could get anything done. Hughes is a great fighter, but there's no denying who the better fighter was in that fight.

I'd love to see Hughes try to go 3 rounds with a Ryoto Machida, a LHW who beat Franklin in a matter of seconds. BJ did it but I don't think Matt could.
