GSP thought the same thing. I thought the same thing. Why didn't Matt think the same thing. It wasn't an impressive win. If and I do mean if BJ was in better shape you know he would have won...but he wasnt and deserved to lose. Matt was dominated 2 strait rounds and BJ was dominated in the 3rd. A win is a win though and now I honestly thing GSP will have a good chance against Matt. There is no question that GSP can go the distance. Should be another great fight. But be honest with yourself Matt and not mad at GSP....It was not an impressive win by any means!

If GSP had domintaed BJ Penn in their fight the comment would be more relevant but the fact is that GSP only barely won that fight, he certainly did not TKO BJ and Matt did TKO BJ. GSP has great cardio so Hugh's will have his hands full when they fight.

KeithPas,
I have to disagree with your estimation that GSP was not dominating against BJ Penn. If you rewatch the fight GSP came out tense and nervous because he knew this was his shot at the title. Because he was tense he paid for it in the first round dearly. He also took an eye poke which I've replayed in slow motion over 20 times and IMO looks intensional without being obvious. Basically GSP was not in his normal frame of mind in round 1 which he will not make the mistake of doing again.

From that point on he dominated Penn in every way possible both standing and on the ground. As the fight went on he became more and more confident. The only reason BJ did not look like he's been beat up is due to his heritage. His skin type is extremely hard to damage. Look at how long Matt huges bludgeoned his face and he barely looked bruised with a few minor splits. Anyone else would have looked like an eggplant.

At first, I thought "why doesn't Penn's face look worse." But, I also didn't see his face today. He didn't bleed much, but I guarantee today he looks horrendous. Actually, it will probably match his body.

Matt's skills are not that impressive! However, he is extremely smart and very resilant!

You forget that this isn't just some brutal sport where everyones out to kill each other. Its much more like a game of physical chess.-looney liam

I did watch the Penn/GSP fight and after the first round it was boring and hard to watch. GSP was able to take Penn to the mat several times, not the type of takedowns that will cause damage but they score points. GSP kept scoring with the takedowns and short combinations and that is a smart thing for him to do and he earned his victory, Hughes did as well. Both Hughes and GSP may not have walked away from their fights with BJ looking like the victor but they won and thats all that matters. My point was that GSP did'nt dominate Penn either and ,in fact, was not able to finish him because it went to a decision, not opinion, fact. Hughes is going to have to fight better against GSP than he did against Penn to win.

I thought the fight with Matt and BJ was awesome. Very exciting to watch.

BJ's flexibility and technique was incredible and Matts strength and ground and pound was cool to watch. BJ got tired but I dont buy he was completely out of shape. I think that Matt was so strong he wore BJ out.

I really enjoyed last nights PPV. Lots of good fights...

BTW I can't wait to see GSP and Matt go at it. I think GSP can beat Matt if he is in top shape.

Just want to throw this out there, but BJ did not thumb Hughes in the eye. If you have a good video capture card & take a look, the thumb starts on the bridge of the nose & slides down over Hughes' cheekbone never touching the eye. He did get socked straight in the eyeball though with the knuckles though. I thought it was a severely b**** move on his part to lobby for the poke stoppage in that instance.

I also agree with the OP in that I do not like Hughes' attitude at all, and this episode only furthered my view in this matter. I am not saying Penn could have won from that point, but it is quite obvious with some slow-mo in a high res environment that Hughes just pulled a complete b**** move.
