I really wish he would just come back and finish up the contract, but I seriously doubt it will ever happen.

Because if Randy loses to #2 he never gets a shot at #1. Randy is in a good position right now to fight Fedor. The US Media loves him. He is going to be in a movie soon. Randy right now is the #1 guy who can fight Fedor. If he loses to Nogueira or Barnett than it's game over for him. He would have to win a fight or two so he could get back to a place he can challenge Fedor.

Also he finally has a chance to fight Fedor and as much as I like Nogueira he isn't thought of in the same way in the MMA world as Fedor is. Why risk it he wants his shot at the crown.

The only deterrent of Randy fighting is if he believes he could lose so i agree with danas sentiments on it all
Exactly he could lose. He finally has a chance to fight Fedor who is basically the man in MMA and if he fights Nogueira there is a chance for him to lose that shot. And he is too old to earn the shot back again.

I understand why Randy wants to do it...its a straight shot at the #1 dude, but it still defies logic. He could avenge a loss to Barnett who would be ranked higher had he not sat out so long, or he could beat the #2 HW with the best resume in the whole history of the Division.

But does he really get the crown if he doens't beat the #2 guy? And would you say that he would be ranked #1 if he beat Fedor? If yes, how could he justify his #1 ranking if he never fought Nog?

Fedor has fought plenty of guys who haven't deserved a shot at him if you want to put it that way. Jeff Monson, Matt Lindland, if those two get shots at Fedor then Randy could lose five in a row and still deserve a shot.

Agreed. I understand he wants Fedor and the UFC should have done whatever it took to make that fight happen but it would have been way easier to fight two more times and move on.

kds if he beats Fedor than there is always a chance he also rematchs Barnett but I understand what your saying but while a lot of fans have Couture at #4 since he has 2 wins at HW a lot of UFC fan's and Dana White have Randy at #1 so I guess in their minds he's not skipping over but who knows.

mlsman I don't know If I would put him over Barnett and Nogueira but I might. It would depend on how the fight went.

livingdeadman he could still get a shot but it wouldn't be thought of the same way. Right now Randy is UFC champion if he loses he won't be then the fight would be much different, defiantly not for the #1 spot.
