mlsman I don't know If I would put him over Barnett and Nogueira but I might. It would depend on how the fight went.

livingdeadman he could still get a shot but it wouldn't be thought of the same way. Right now Randy is UFC champion if he loses he won't be then the fight would be much different, defiantly not for the #1 spot.
I think this is exactly what's running through Randy's mind. There's a chance he could lose to Nog and if he does, then he won't be fighting for Fedor for #1 position. The fight would have MUCH less meaning to it. Randy doesn't have forever and right now is the best time to fight Fedor. That's pretty much it right there.

He would have to win a fight or two so he could get back to a place he can challenge Fedor.

Also he finally has a chance to fight Fedor and as much as I like Nogueira he isn't thought of in the same way in the MMA world as Fedor is. Why risk it he wants his shot at the crown.
So Couture doesn't want to fight anyone else because he's afraid he might lose. Fantastic and the attitude that made 'Captain America' great. It's definitely the smartest choice, since his record suggests he has a 50/50 chance of losing to whoever he fights next.

So, the number 1 guy hasn't fought anyone meaningful in years, the debatable number 2 guy refuses to fight anyone meaningful other than the number 1 guy, and everyone else is left to fight each other. Awesome.

Randy is being an idiot, im sorry but he is fully aware of the contract he signed and if he is NOT aware that is his fault again. I dont respect anyone who does not own up to their responsibilities. Not to mention he is letting his fans down who are the ones who make this all possible. Rany and Noq would be a great fight and im mad its not happening. Fedor is great, but fact of the matter is today the ufc is the place to be and if he isnt fighting their well then he isnt #1. Period. How u gonna dispute this?

I agree 100% I felt this from the very beginning. I think Randy chooses to reach the top the easy way by wanting to go right to fedor, instead of fighting his way to the very top. If he would have just finished his 2 fights, We probably would be seeing those 2 go at it around the time his contract expires.

Think of the Randy/Nog/Fedor situation this way. If Randy did comeback and beat Nog what would that win mean in a lot of fans eyes? Most people would be saying he beat an unprepared Nog and if this was Pride Nog would have destroyed him. The reception would be lukewarm just like Kongo's win over Mirko or Forrest win over Shogun!

I don't know what to think about all this. Randy not fighting really disrupts the division, but I guess the UFC didn't take him seriously when he told them he wanted this fight. As long as Randy doesn't do anything illegal (contract breach) then I say he is entitled to do whatever he wants. Its his life and he obviosly is thinking about a lot of other things than what we are.
Also, Randy thinks very highly of Noguiera, its just that for whatever reason he ONLY wants to fight Fedor and then leave.

Randy really should honor his contract and fight whoever is put in front of him.... he aint getting Fedor so he should just live with it. Sometimes things dont go your way even when you are Captain America
