I think if Chuck goes in with the same plan that he did against Wanderlei he will lose. Shogun is way better than Wanderlei on the ground, and he fights much smarter to. Wanderlei's face was worthy of a kodak moment when Chuck went for the shot and took him down; total disbelief.

I dont know if that is true, the takedowns may not be as good of an idea against Shogun, but to be honest it was but by the grace of god that Wandy was still standing at the end of that fight, I didnt think they were even gonna let Wandy come out for the 3rd round he was gushing so bad, Silva's chin got a hell of a work out in that fight and I dont know much about Shoguns chin but most fighters would not have been standing having taken the beating from Chuck that he gave Wandy.

GOing into Shogun's fight with Rampage everyone thought that QJ was a bad matchup for him and would walk through Shogun. Similar to what people are saying about Chuck. Rampage isnt much different stylistically from Chuck. Both are great strikers with good wrestling and TDD. I dont think its out of the question for Shogun to do to Chuck what he did to QJ. I dont see it being THAT onesided, but he could overwhelm Chuck. We'll see.

Actually, Chuck's punching style is extemely awkward compared to Rampage and he also counter punches.

This is more of a bad fight for Shogun than Chuck, since Shogun's a grappler and Chuck eats those fools for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Rampage doesn't (or didn't) like people running at him, while Chuck enjoys that. Seriously, Shogun will have to improve.

Shogun is far from a great striker.

a grappler with a KO winning percentage of 81.25% :dunno:

chuck would have a better shot at taking it to the ground and trying to sub shogun, since shoguns never been knocked out!

(dont take my post too seriously)

I don't really care about what Dida said I'm just glad he is getting some pub in the UFC forum.

BTW Shogun has faced tougher fighters than Chuck is now but this is a tough match up for Shogun no doubt. Chuck does need to improve IMO though because The gameplan for beating Shogun is to gas him and then let him make mistakes on the ground. Chuck can't do that he is going to swing for the fences and he needs to defiantly work on his ground game for this fight.

I think if he goes into this fight like he went into the wanderlei fight he's going to beat shogun.

Chucks TDD is the best in the game, and unless some serious changes have happened wanderlei is a better striker than shogun. I see chuck winning this, it seems a bad match-up for shogun.

I don't know man, I could make a pretty fair argument that Chuck has faced much much better opponants.

And I hate to always do this, but I think a list-off will help.
Their Top Opponants:

Chuck:
Couture x3. Horn. Babalu x2. Randleman. Bustamante. Tito x2. Monson. Rampage. Mezger. Overeem. Belfort. Wanderlei. Pele. Jardine (?)

Shogun:
Griffin. Randleman. Rampage. Arona. Nakamura. Overeem x2. Nogueira. Babalu. Gono. Coleman.

I think Chuck definitely has the experience factor, and also, he has fought much tougher competition, much more consistently.

You can argue that, well hey, Shogun is a down right better fighter, but the point it, Chuck has faced MUCH better competition.

@cplmac- great catch..I wnmated to post that...

@PLazzman, yep good sumup.

I think that Jackson of years ago and Jackson of now are not the same fighter. He has come a long way and I will take sig bets that he will beat Wandy and Shogun if either earn a rematch.

As to who has faced better opponents I agree w Plazz. And in the recent past Chuck has had enough TDD to beat many good opponents. I don't know if Chuck's game is really back though since losing the belt to Quentin.

And if Chuck beats Shogun I am going to really ask myself where Jardine should be.

oh- and if shogun loses, maybe Nog's trainer Alves can come out and say something about "Americans and their baby cream..." :D

I think that Shogun's the one who's gonna have to improve, as well as come in with a great gameplan if he wants to win this fight. Standing, Liddell matches up well with Shogun (like Wandy) although unlike Wandy, I don't see Shogun taking Liddell's shots so well and he will most likely be KO'ed if Liddellgoes off like he did against Wandy. On the ground, obviously Shogun would win but I don't see it going there unless Liddell takes Shogun down (ala UFC 79), and if SHogun gets it there Liddell will most likely just pop back up again. I'm hoping to see Shogun win this one, but I think that Liddell will take it either by KO in the 3rd or by decision.

Uh, why? Shogun has bever been KO'd. He has a good chin, watch the Lil Nog fight.

I think this is a bad matchup for Shogun. Chuck has a history of facing better grapplers than him and people who are better then him on the ground, but how many of them ACTUALLY got him there and held him there long enough to do damage. Chuck's sprawl is one of the best in the business and he is great at using his wrestling as a defense and he pops up when taken down better than anyone i've seen. If Shogun can take a beating like Wandy did then i see Chuck winning by decision but i'm not sure most fighters but Wandy could have still been standing at the end of that fight.

i'm glad to hear shogun is taking this fight seriously. I just hope he looks at the wanderlei fight and takes a thing or 2 from it. If shogun can get Chuck to the ground he will win. I am still going to be on Shogun to win, even though I see Chuck as a threat

Chuck's counter punching is a bad match-up for Shogun's wild striking.. Shogun misses a lot and Chuck will capitalize on it. But lets not forget that unorthodox striking works on chuck. Shogun could train on that..

I don't think Shogun will be able to take Chuck down. I don't see him getting Chuck in a clinch either and he won't be able to out strike Chuck. I see Chuck taking this by KO or (T)KO. If he comes out and tries to pressure Chuck I see him getting KO'd similar to Couture 2 & 3. In fact, that is exactly how I see this fight going.

Shogun has taken down many many strong big fighters. Arona (ADCC Submission Wrestling World Champion)was taken down Overeem was, Lil nog was taken down repeadetly, Kevin Randleman (wrestling specalist)and he brought Rampage to the ground too, but that was due to the knees in the clinch. Nethertheless he brought Jackson to the ground.

To say he won't be able to get Chuck to the ground once is silly. Of course it could be the case but I feel it's rather unlikely

Babalu has been in and out of the UFC a couple times now and i dont see why they wont bring him back someday as long as he is willing. If so you know Joe Silva would make it happen. That dude loves his sequels... lol. If there is a god he will let the rematch happen no matter what organization its under.
