Let's Discuss Ryo Chonan

Okay, I've been on a Ryo Chonan kick as of late, oddly enough, and I was thinking about how inconsistent the guy is. In his UFC debut, he didn't even fight, he just acted like a mattress. Now, Ryo Chonan, when motivated, can produce some good, good things. He looked great against Carlos Newton, looked really good against Anderson Silva, looked solid against Nino and looked pretty rad against Roan. When unmotivated, well, he just doesn't do all that good.

So, I was thinking, what next? Hopefully, he gets another shot, because I'd hate to see a solid fighter have one terrible performance and leave, but hey, it happens. I think he belongs in the WW division, and I'd love to see him fight someone like Lytle, someone who is going to make him bring it and not be a blow-up doll.

So yeah, I like the guy and would like to see him perform well in the UFC. Your thoughts on the guy?

Discuss.

I would like to see Anderson have a chance to avenge that loss to Chonan.

Well if a UFC debut was not enough to motivate him, I think that says it all.
I think you have to factor in Octagon jitters. Could be inconsistence, could be jitters. I still want to see him fight in the UFC again. A fight against Taylor would be fun. Maybe he can make Crocota even uglier or something.

I dont think he really needs to avenge hes loss against Chonan. Although he pulled off the best submission move i have ever seen in MMA, hes was getting totally dominated the whole fight. And i think he just surprised Silva, as well as everyone who was watching. Silva will beat him in the first round no problem.

Watch it again. Not the hype tape with Barnett talking nonsense, but the whole fight. I had that scored as a draw when Chonan landed that sick sub. Silva looked, well not like Silva in that fight. He wasn't attacking, and minus some nice combos landed in the beginning before being taken down, he didn't do enough to win that fight.

Plazzman, have you seen Chonan's fight with Carlos Newton? As soon as Chonan escapes the armbar (How he did that, I'll never know. That was deep), he turns it up all the way and lays a pure beating on Newton. I mean, man, he kneed him, like, a million times and almost put him out. It was a really, really solid performance from him. He's just so awkward, yet really good when he's "on."

I gotta say i dont like Chonan very much. Hes, like you said Damone, solid everywhere, but not impressive anywhere. He could be a good test to any fighters, but take away that flying scisor heel hook, and he hasnt done much.

I personally dont care much if he stays or goes, but in any case, i wish him luck..

Im sick of those jitters screwing with Pride fighters..

Chonan is cool, and I really want to see him fight again. I mean he lost to the second best WW in the UFC, he should fight again.

Honestly I don't know if he is what he used to be, we won't see a better performance from him than when he beat Silva(and I disagree Damone, he would have got that decision). God that fight was great.

Oh, he probably would have gotten the decision, it was really close, and you could make an argument for both men. Thankfully, Chonan ended things so we wouldn't have to make that argument.

TheNegation, you ever see his fight with Newton? I can't stop pimping that performance.

Chonan is a cool guy. I think this guy can pull some real good moments when he's really into it but when he's not? Then he looks like the guy that fought Parisyan at UFC 78.

I find it hard to really dislike Chonan because even after his disappointing performances, he kind of leads me on again.. thinking maybe he'll put on a real killer fight next time..

Chonan.. such a heartbreaker.. tsk tsk tsk

EDIT: I thought Chonan was definitely beating Silva before the magic heel hook.

I definitely want to see Chonan get another fight in the UFC. It very well may have been the jitters but I certainly think he deserves another chance.
