** norway1's fighter tribute part 2 ** : James "The Sandman" Irvin
Id thought id make a tribute to my favourite " entertainment " fighter out there James Irvin
some info from wikipedia :
James 'The Sandman' Irvin (born September 12, 1978) is an American mixed-martial artist who currently competes as a Light Heavyweight in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). He has an overall record of 14 wins, 4 losses, and 1 No Contest. James 'The Sandman' Irvin is a former WEC Heavyweight Champion. Irvin knocked out Houston Alexander in 8 seconds at UFC Fight Night 13 with a superman punch, tying the fastest knockout in the UFC.
Thoughts on upcoming opponent, Houston Alexander? Houston is a perfect match up for me and my fighting style. There's no doubt we will be fight of the night or KO of the night. A word of advice for the Spike viewers: "Don't Blink".
Irvin may not be the most talented fighter, but he really does bring the fireworks every time he steps into the Octagon. Really, that is all I can ask for out of him.
"Ryno needs to settle down, he is just too amped up right now"
LOL wow, poor ryno was getting pummelled on and was wobbling, and they say he is too amped up and excited. Wow, I never thought I'd say this, but Mir was a HUGE upgrade for WEC commentator-wise. Sure Mir overhypes the shit of the fights and of the fighters, but at least he knows what he's talking about for the most part.
Great post... Irvin is very exciting and is very close to being in the top of the LHW mix...I would love to see him fight Hamil next or maybe even Souky.
I would love to see him and Wand slug it out. That would be a war. DOn't know if The Sandman is ready, but I think he would surprise a few people. I think he needs one more fight before a big name like Wand or Sokky.
The flash KO against Alexander was pretty funny. I would like to see him fight Tim Boetsch (if the UFC hasn´t dropped him after the Hamill loss, that is).
Irvin never disapoints. He's right up there with my favorite guys to watch. The power he has in his hands always has you on the edge of your seat because you don't want to miss the punch that ends it all.....or the knee!
I love watching Irvin fight and he's very entertaining, but I don't think he'll ever be a top contender due to his very poor ground game. In his fight with Terry Martin he was getting MAULED on the ground, Martin took him down seemlessly, and martin is a very short fighter and was small(for a lightheavy weight). Also Irvin was beaten quite easily by Bonnar the ground and lost due to SUB. He'll always be an entertaining fighter, but just not a top contender due to his poor ground game.
I can see a Rematch with Thiago after Thiago's next fight. Would make sense to me.
