I think Penn would be happy to stand with Sherk. Will Sherk try a GSP vs Serr/Kos and immediately go for the takedown? It will be a battle but I think Sherk could pull it out by trying to neutrilze Penn until rounds 4-5.
yeah that's really the story of the fight....

bj has more tools to win for sure....but sherk's pathway just might be easier to follow....this fight is so even that sherk basically just has to push bj for 10 minutes....stay out of danger...than go start pushing for points in rounds 3, 4 and 5....

can he do that? i think he can by standing and banging for a while....sherk has great boxing defense and throws some good punches himself. he also could in the clinch....force bj to defend a takedown for 6 minutes and he's finished...clinching is probably the most tiring of allt he positions cuz muscles all over you body are constantly contracting and pushing against your opponent...he COULD if he ends up on top...but that's pretty dangerous, even w/ his sub defense...and if penn gets on top of sherk w/ like 2 minutes + in the round....he better find a way to get his ass up

you know, i'll be a sherk fan after this fight unless a certain outcome happens:

sherk is down 3 rounds...goes into the 4th w/ plenty of gas and bj is tired...and he eeks out 2 rounds to lose a 48-47 decision with very little aggression to finish the fight when in a dominant position....that will piss me off....i really hate when a fighter KNOWS they have to finish, and doesn't give a shit....i don't care if a posturing in the mount can lead to a reversal...go for broke damnit....

Ok I know I am begging here but I really hope Sheirk KO"S BJ PENN. I think for an amazing fighter Penn has NO class as a person.

He holds on after people tap thats B.S. in my book and to talk all this crap about someone doing steroids to me he dosn't have the heart or determination of Sheirk but I fear the reality is talent wise he is inhuman right now.

But who cares Sheirk KO with a upper cut when B.J. Shoots for a take down.

Timing is everything

I think it's going to be a tough match for both guys, but I see the Muscle Shark coming out on top.

thats true, timing is everything and BJ Penn has some of the best timing with his hands I have ever seen. If you really watch BJ Penn strike he is not doing anything special, he isnt even that good technically but his timing is awesome and that makes him a good striker. So, timing may work against you on this one.

I agree because I think GSP, and Jens Pulver both have better technically sound striking compared to Penn, but Penn was able to bloody GSP the f**k up and he also continually landed his uppercut on Pulver. So I have to fully agree that Penns timing is right on the money, therefore, that's who I'll be putting my money on come fight night

For what it's worth, Penn did thumb GSP in the eye, and GSP landed his share of strikes in the first round. BJ just has an unreal (And I do mean unreal) chin. He took shots from GSP, Gomi and Lyoto and didn't even flinch.

He's a good striker though, scrappy as hell.

Has Penn ever gone a full 5 rounds before??
If my memory serves me correctly, he has not.
I'm going for Penn in this one, but I just really hope he's been working on his cardio.

He's gone 5 rounds twice. Losing to Pulver and drawing with Caol Uno.
