It seemed to me that the few takedowns that he try weren't even with heart and if that was due to his injuries then he should have thrown in the towel. I guess when you're in front of millions of people your brain is stressed, but I would think his corner would of sensed or noticed something wrong with him.
Perhaps he should move down in weight, but I don't think that would be good with his height.
I think that its obvious that he lacks either the physical toughness and training dedication to avoid injury, the heart to meaningfully continue when he has an injury that feels debilitating, or mixture of both.
He might want to just stick to grappling competitions or training other fighters.

All three rounds were TERRIBLE. The third was the most humiliating because Quarry called him out on it, but the second was almost as bad as the third and the first was pretty bad as well. An all around strong statement from him on where his head is at in this sport. I don't want to pile on the guy, but what he did was pretty much indefensible and people seem to be trying to explain away what we saw. I don't know, maybe I'm being to hard on him, but there were quality fights on that card that did not get air because he took up 15 minutes cutting a Quarry promo. I would have much rather seen Maia choke out Herman.

Agreed! Nothing good came out of that fight from Kalib Starnes!
He's damned if he does and damned if he doesn't. He got plenty of guff for throwing in the towel over his rib injury against Kendall Grove on TUF, so obviously that's not ok with fans, either. Apparently the only way he could have retained respect in people's eyes is to walk into Quarry's strikes and get KO'ed.
and when the blood in his eye and he couldnt see boo hoo
Plain and simple, Starnes did not act like a "fighter" in that fight. There is nothing wrong with having a game plan, even if that plan includes circling and staying out of reach. He had a plan and was trying to execute it. HOWEVER, he was not, and I repeat, was not trying to win that fight! I think above anything else this is what I have a problem with. Game plans are fine if they work. If they don't, AND YOUR LOSING THE FIGHT, then that game plan has to change! At some point in that fight he knew he was down on the score cards and he did absolutely nothing to try and win that fight. All he was doing was trying to get through the fight without getting hurt. By his own admission he thought Nate was stronger and hit harder than he did. HE WAS SCARED! There is nothing wrong with being scared. But when you are a professional "fighter" you have to try and win. You can't be scared to get hit. If you are, then it's time for a new profession IMO.
agree with foose. He did not try to win and showed no heart. At some point no matter what your gameplan is when you are down 2 rounds to 1 you have to fight. Its that simple. You have to let your hands go and hope for the best. Starnes is a *****. We have always known that, it didnt start with this fight. This fight really confirmed it though. I have no respect for him. I respect fighters, I have some respect for runners too when they do it on a track and not in an octagon.
That's not true at all. He put up one of the worst performances in history, only one person has ever gotten worse than a 30-24 in the UFC. He offered no form of offense, he didn't even put up a legitimate form of defense. He just ran. How can we respect that?
His excuses are so lame...he is basically saying the other guy is better than me in every way so I ran away and attempted to "jab" and I got scared because he is also fast enough to avoid my "jab". Way to go Kalib, you still had the worst performance in ufc history. What a tool.
His excuses are lame, if he had lost but given his all in the fight, people would still have respect for him, instead he decided he wanted no part of the fight (except the cheque of course), what a poor mentality for a fighter.

I fully agree.. What to do what to do... He could have tried to get into a position were he got choked out.... Ive seen it a few times.
If only Rogan was there to interveiw Starnes post fight he could have used his famous line:
"Well Kalib you lost the fight and clearly FEAR IS A FACTOR FOR YOU"
