Bocek vs Evans really didn't interest me, to be honest with you. I was impressed with Bocek being able to take Evans down, but other than that, it was just sort of meh.

I liked Carneiro vs DeSouza. DeSouza has a really good ground game, but that's about it. Someone here said that Tony DeSouza was BJ Penn's Jorge Gurgel, and I totally agree with that. He's just taking up space, and even though he did beat guys like Hazelett and Azeredo, he hasn't shown any skills standing, he still has a poor shot and he has horrible cardio. Roan looked pretty solid here, and showed some nice wrestling and solid BJJ. The first round was pretty competitive, with Roan getting DeSouza's back and DeSouza getting out. Roan threw some nice elbows from the bottom and DeSouza had solid top positioning. Second round, well, DeSouza got whomped. Roan got his back and pounded poor beardo boy's head into paste.

Okay, seriously, was Lister vs Radev a joke? Was it a sick, sick joke? Joe Silva, do you hate us or something? This reminded me of Suloev vs Lister, where they both played tiddly winks standing and bored everyone. Pretty much the same thing happened here. Dean Lister is talented, but man, that guy can bring the suck when necessary, and he definitely brought it here. Radev's all, "Dude, you can suck, but I'm going to REALLY suck!" Soa Palelei one upped them both, but that's later on. Terrible.

Manny looked good, I really like his aggression and top control. Mohr falls victim to another leg-lock, but hey, he can say that he fell victim to 2 swank leg-locks in the UFC. I really want to see Manny fight some tough guys.

James Irvin showed some really solid boxing and some seriously nice kicks in his fight with Cane. James Irvin has the best Superman punch in the game today, and you can tell that Cane wanted out of the fight, since James irvin was kicking his ass. Cane kneed Irvin in the eye, and let me tell you, that must've hurt, because James Irvin isn't a punk. To see one of the best unknown LHW's down like that, man, shit must've hurt.

Clementi pwns Melvin on the ground and I laugh. I knew my man-Rich-was going to choke out Guillard, and he did, and he did so in awesome fashion. Clementi looked really good here, and pulled out a swank omoplata attempt that was crap in pants inducing. Clementi gives him a crotch chop and taunts Melvin. This was all good.

Speaking of pwning, wow, Machida freakin' schooled Sokky. Sokky just didn't know what to do in there with Machida, and Machida's got a chin (I've already known this), because Sokky hits damn hard. Lyoto's amazing, and he got to show off his ground game here, and he choked out a top 10 LHW in Sokky, but people keep saying that Machida's never been tested, which is bullshit. Solid tooling.

Eddie Sanchez vs Soa Palelei was, wow, it was bad. Really, really bad. Soa really turned up the suck to maximum here, as all he did with clinch with Sanchez. That's it, he just clinched. This was pretty much the whole fight. It sucked, it was terrible, I never want to talk about it again.

Many loved Wanderlei vs Chuck Liddell, but I didn't. Sorry, I just didn't care for it, but I will say that round 2 was pretty fun, and I gave it to Wandy because he tagged Chuck with punches and he landed some nice kicks. Wanderlei should've stuck with the kicks. I have no clue why he didn't, but then I remembered that it's Wanderlei. Chuck Liddell looked a tad sloppy on the re-watch, but I liked the takedowns, since it showed that Chuck has other weapons. Wanderlei's face was a mess, and he got tagged a lot. I was shocked that he didn't go out, to be honest with you. I know many are all, "Wanderlei did good, he got hit a bunch of times and never went down," but dudes shouldn't be eating punches like that.

I really wanted to see Serra vs Hughes, but Serra got injured. GSP replaced him, which was a great replacement, but man, Serra vs Hughes would've been really interesting. Yeesh, GSP smoked a great fighter in Hughes. Not standing, on the ground, and he ended up subbing him. Hughes is a tough guy to catch, too. Great showing from GSP, and all the GSP fans wet their GSP undies with joy.

I liked this show, but I felt there were other UFC shows that were better in 07. This wasn't touching UFC 76, UFC 71, UFC 74 and UFC 75, but it had its fun moments.

Discuss.

This card wasn't as good on the re-watch as it was the first time I saw it. Some poor fights for sure. But the level of tension and excitment throughout the card watching it live makes it ones of the most exciting PPVs of all time. I was seriouslly stoked for Liddell-Silva. I was expecting a KO but it otherwise did not dissappoint.

I don't recall Irvin schooling Cane that much. :dunno:

I laughed when Clementi subbed Melvin like he promised, good stuff there. Liddell vs. Silva didn't really live up to the hype as I expected. It just got so prolonged and neither guy had that aura of invincibility anymore. The fight would have been sweet if it happened earlier.

GSP vs. Hughes III was total schooling, again. I always enjoy a beat down and the final 30s of that fight was sweet. GSP does a hip toss into a triangle/kimura combination and finishing it with an armbar. That was some slick stuff right there.

Honestly, I think everyone saw that coming a mile away. That's like predicting you'll have sex with a girl who is willingly lying naked in your bed; obvious!

That was a great way to open UFC 79: Nemesis though, and I always love watching Melvin Guillard getting embarrassed. :thumb01:

Nice write up. You are definitely right that there were a few cards better in 2007 than this one. But how you guys could not be excited over Liddell-Wandy I just dont get. Even though it should've happened years ago just the build-up and anticipation made the fight great.

Plus Lyoto beating a Top 10 LHW was sweet!! And then GSP proving why he should be champ by schooling Hughes badly. :thumb02:

horrible boring fight YES. BUT sanchez did what he had to to keep sao from taking advantage on his reach. Sanchez kept it tight and delivered uppercuts. Sanchez followed a good fightplan but jeeeez how boring.

I cried a little bit when Clementi...well, he dominated Melvin. Now, I love Clementi, and want to have babies with him.

I loved the Wandy/Chuck fight, from an old-school Boxer fan point of view. Two guys in there punching each other in the face - awesome.

GSP vs Hughes - GSP dominates him again, and no one is really suprised.
