Wives get emotional no matter what, especially if Rich thought he'd get whooped and told her that.

That's probably what it was, he probably told her this was his toughest fight, and that maybe he knew he would lose?? Hard to say...do fighters talk like that, admit they've lost in private but sound confident in public?

Unless Rich was secluded from his wife while training, he most likely wouldnt have been able to hide the truth from her if he was indeed worried about this fight. Especially since he's been off for so long, women arent that dumb and she may have figured it out.

Whats with all the excuses? Rich is my boy but damn no need to try to find excuses. He knew what he was up against, he knows better than any of you trying to figure it out. He said he was ready, he didn't hurt his hand in the fight, so there is no excuse other than he was outmatched. Franklin is known for being a very smart fighter, so he knew exactly what he needed to do to win, but Silva was just the better fighter. The only excuse possible is that the very first knee delivered from Silva broke a rib or 2 on Ace, which isn't an excuse, it's a reason why he lost. Anderson beat him fair and square, and all the damage inflicted on Rich was a direct result of Andersons striking. If Ace didnt think he was ready to fight, he could have postponed it no problem. He said he was ready, he was confident, he was healthy, and he lost. Enough said. Rich is a great fighter but it's not like Silva just killed Jesus or something, everyone loses eventually, and it's only his 2nd loss, so stop trying to conjure up a lame excuse and give credit where its due.

Also this isn't the WWE so the fight wasn't fixed, what kind of moron would think Rich would take a knee to the face and a horrible broken nose like that on purpose? For what reason? Rich is more popular than Silva, so why would they stage Rich's loss? It makes no sense and it's a retarded theory. If the guys talking about this looking staged are just saying it LOOKED like that, then nevermind, but if you actually thought this shit was staged, you should prolly bathe in some hydrocloric acid for a bit.

Rich will be back, sometimes losses make fighters stronger and in this case i believe it will.

Maybe a match up with Leben would be good or marquardt.

Hey all - this is my first post, glad to be on board.
Franklin is still a great fighter but Silva is nasty. Franklin is my fav fighter but when I saw Silva dismantle an over rated, over hyped Lieban, I knew Franklin would have a serious challenger. Franklin will be back and improved and Silva/Franklin II will be great - Silva will surely holdonto the belt for this eventual rematch because that division is not so strong but with some good strikers, it only takes one shot. By the way, will Hughes stick to his word and move up now to challenge Silva? Love to see it but I am not sur eif it is a smart move.

I cannot understand why all the debate and discussion about which is better PRIDE or UFC. Some think that Silva coming from PRIDE and beating Franklin must then mean Pride is better. Look at Silva's career, five fights in Pride, two in UFC - both a small portion of his expereince. The reality is just about all of the fighters spent time in the other camp at some point or another including UFC also rans who some how get pop in Pride. I personally just like MMA and I find it hard to watch Pride at times. I don't like the length of the rounds or the fact that fighters have to deal with the annoying ropes. It seems boring to me at times but there is certainly some great talent. I do believe UFC, as a product and organization, is better run and marketed (especially since it is USA grown and not overseas - obviously to an American this would be the case). Zuffa and Dana White have just done a fantatstic job of evolving its product and getting it out to the masses. I believe as a result of this we will see more of the top Pride fighters jumping ship to UFC over time. If either organization was really that great there would not be so much cross over. I am sure the debate will rage on but that's my two cents.

By the way, what ever happened ot Vanderlei Silva fighting Lidell? In the UFC PPV a few months back he came out and challenged Chuck and Dan White said it was going to happen then I have not heard anything. Is it off and if so why? Does anyone know who is slated to fight th ebig New Years Eve PPV?

I dont think the fight was fixed at all, I think Silva just dominated. Silva TOSSED franklin around in the clench and those knees just destroyed him plain and simple. Franklin tried to get out but couldnt'.

If they didnt go into the clench I think Silva still would have dropped him from strikes. Franklin is a great fighter but he doesnt have the speed or precision that Silva does plain and simple.

I wish Franklin the best but he was outclassed. It was a slaughter...

Excellent post, and I agree with your comments regarding Pride round duration being too long. I've heard that Wanderlei Silva was bumped so that Tito Ortiz could fight Chuck Lidell @ UFC 65 - from a marketing perspective that makes sense as there is significantly more hype/publicity momentum behind Tito in the US market now. We'll have to wait for Silva.
