I wouldn't call Rich an overrated fighter because he lost to Silva. He had one bad fight. That could happen to anyone in this business!

He dropped his hands soon because he had to protect his ribs which were getting destroyed. That being said i dont think Rich was 100% for this fight, something did look wrong. That would be an excuse for maybe losing but not getting absolutly dominated like he did. I never thought I'd see anyone make Rich their ***** like Anderson did. I was shocked and highly dissappointed. Rich by nearly every ranking system was considered a top 5 pound for pound fighter or at least close to it. Last night proved he is not indeed at that level. So he was overrated, a good fighter and maybe even great fighter at 100% but not as good as good as most people hought he was. If he was 100% he wouldve put up a better fight I think but he still wouldve lost, no doubt in my mind.

He knew he was fighting Anderson before we all did, I didn't mean he shoulda cancelled like last night haha, I meant a month or 2 months ago. The black eye is very common and was prolly from training with the Militech boys. He dropped his hands and looked off because he was 1.) intimidated and 2.) I'd bet money he got at least a bruised rib possibly even cracked or broken from one of those first knees from Silva. A broken rib in the first exchange would definately explain why his hands fell and he looked scared and worried and not himself. He didn't look bad until he ate that first knee to the midsection, that's when things went downhill. I think he looked fine and normal before that knee, a little intimidated but still fighting like the old Rich...until the knee

Chute Boxe fighters (Silva used to be with them) seem to regularly break ribs as Shogun did to Rampage when they fought. Remember Shogun had him in a corner and Jackson yelled to his corner "my ribs are broke". And this was after a vicious knee delivered my Shogun in the clinch.

No suprise here. Maybe this will shed some more light on people who keep trying to make an excuse for Rich Franklin. He's good, but he lost. Simple as that. He'll be back.

Yeah man you hit the nail on the head. Rich is a good fighter but he has never been in with people like Anderson Silva. The UFC obviously wanted to jump on him as a poster boy because he is well spoken, a good ambassador for the sport. I felt the same thing about people he beat, like L'Oiseau, Tanner and Shamrock. I think it was hard to say Rich was overrated because we never saw him in there with anyone that good. Now we have, now we know

Franklin's statement "there isn't anyone especially in the 185 lbs division that I would be willing to throw hands with", shows he has confidence in his own abilities and how they have bought him success. Next, he was well aware of Silva and his abilities as a fighter as well. Finally Franklin's been at this far too long, and the things I've seen him do in training, tells me he is knowlegeable about the danger of overtraining which blows this prevalent belief OUT the window.

He was outclassed. Silva was the better fighter plain and simple and trust me I dont like to admit it but its true. This should not even be an arguement Rich has no excuses for getting beat that bad. he will in my mind be considered the far inferior fighter until he proves me wrong and beats Silva or at least comes back and puts up a better fight.
