Is Rich "Ace" Franklin overrated??

I've been on forums all ****ing night and this topic seems to pop up everywhere....

I live near Cincinatti and have always supported Rich because he's my hometown boy and he's a great fighter. In the back of my mind I have always thought of Rich as being overrated, even though I never wanted to admit it. It's not his fault though, it's the UFCs fault so don't feel bad for saying yea he is overrated cuz I'm starting to think it's true. He is still a good fighter no doubt about that he has beat some stiff mediocre competition in his career, but mediocre is as far as his wins stretch. I can't say all his wins were over mediocre opponents though, Tanner in my mind should be considered good and Shamrock as well. How many of you guys think Rich is overrated now that we seen him get dismantled by Anderson in one of the most devastating TKOs I have ever seen in the UFC. Here's my little chart of how I rate my fighters:

-horrible (Danny Abbadi, Mike Nickles, Wes Combs)
-bad (Matt Hammil, Fabiano Scherner, Gabriel Gonzaga)
-decent (Cheick Kongo, Sam Stout)
-mediocre (David Terrell, Joe Riggs)
-good (Evan Tanner, Jon Fitch, Time Sylvia, Mike Swick)
-great (Hughes, Penn, GSP, Liddell)

Rich has always been considered GREAT, but now I am starting to think he is better fitted for 'good' or maybe even 'mediocre'. I'm not basing my opinion just from him losing to Anderson, but I feel like I am just starting to 'see the light', and am starting to understand why people considered him overrated from the beginning....thoughts?

rich is great but silva is maby better. rich is no over overrated. going in to the fight rich looked like he was sick or something. I know there was somethin wrong whith him. I knew it when I saw the interveiw it looked like he had a black. plus comming back from his hand break he might no have been training as hard as he could have.

Not to sound like a ****, BUT. Rich was plenty fine for this fight, being the posterboy that he is, if he felt he wasnt ready or healthy, he could have asked Dana to postpone the fight without a question asked. It's hard seeing your favorite fighter lose, I know, but you're just kidding yourself and looking for excuses. I know it's hard not to but you just can't do it until something is confirmed.

You cant use the broken hand as an excuse because Rich even said that he came back training just as hard as he always has. In the UFC 64 coutdown his trainers said he was training harder and more focused, he was just dowright beat the **** up by a better fighter.

Rich is good, but people calling him great sort of makes me laugh. He has a problem with aggressive strikers, and his chin has always been questionable. Rich seems like a nice guy, and I think people use that to judge him on his fighting.

I dont think he is over rated. These fighters can all be beat by one another on any given day. It all depends on how the cards fall. I like Rich Franklin but I am not a die hard Franklin fan. With that said I really think him being out with the broken hand had some help in his defeat. I also thought Rich looked very depleted like he was overtrained. We all know his training regimen is top notch and keeping that kind of intensity for long periods of time will take its toll on you. In all his interviews for this fight he just looked kind of frail and depleted which looks to me like overtraining. Also I will throw this out there for some food for thought. Maybe the Militage camp was getting too big for their own good. Hughes almost got has ass handed to him by BJ. If BJ would have taken his conditioning seriously Matt would have been outclassed. Keep in mind I am a big Matt Hughes fan and a big BJ Penn fan so I am not slamming someone because of my dislike for them. Then the domination last night by Silva. Next month Tim Silvia will fight Jeff Monson. Tim has no ground game and if Monson can get passed the reach advatage and take tim down it will be over. I just think the militage camp was enjoying being on the top for so long they may have overlooked something in there training and its starting to show. These are just my opinions of course.

K, before this thread gets too popular let me clarify:

I'm in no way saying Rich is a bad fighter. Like I said he is still good...but being overrated just means you don't live up to the hype. Rich has always been made out to be an unbeatable machine, but in all reality, he hasn't faught anybody worth the hype. We all know Shamrock is over the hill now, we didn't at the time Rich beat him, which made him look fantastic. That being his UFC debut, made him an easy target for a posterboy. I think he's overrated because he is made out to be Fedor-esque, but his 2 fights against great opponents, he has gotten KOed, and he's nearly gotten KOed in every other fight as well.

All I'm askin is if he's overrated, not if he's a bad fighter. My mindset right now is how can you NOT think he was overrated? Yesterday I would have bashed someone for saying that though.

No No No No no No No No! dana would never let a main event title fight stop because one of the fighters was not feeling well. there would be a riot like there was in the shamrock ortiz fight. plus all the money he spent on the hype no way he would let that go to waste. Look in his eyes during the interveiw he had a black eye and there was something about him that was alittle off. he would never drop his hands so soon in a fight. plus you can feel like s*** and still act like you feel good.
