over 200 pounds fell on that leg. Im not sure what happened before that flying knee that didnt do much except jack Matts knee. I think after that happened it was over. either way.
I'm disapointed, because I really thought that Hughes was going to take this one. Regardless, Matt Hughes is still a lock for the hall of fame, and I'm more than confident that Matt Hughes is going to destroy Matt Serra. I'm bummed out, but I'll be happier when Hughes tools Serra, then, hopefully, retires. As much of a Matt Hughes fan as I am, I want to see him go out on positive note. No more of a positive note that I can think of than Hughes f**king Serra up.
Was anyone else pissed off about Hughes pre-fight comments saying that he used to charge in, slam his opponent and beat him up... now he just sits back and waits for his opponent to make a mistake?
That sounded retarded to me. He got to where he is by charging in and slamming him opponent and beating them up. Why change it now? Don't fis what isn't broken. I have no idea what his gameplan even was today...
I am/was a huge Hughes fan. Have been since Hughes Trigg 2, but his new mindset is completely retarded and wrong headed.
Hughes looked pretty poor, didnt really do anything when he did have Alves on the mat. I do think the 4 pounds gave Alves a pretty significant advantage, if Hughes was allowed to be 175 it could have been a different fight. But Alves looked pretty good. GSP would destroy him though if they ever fought, i don't think he deserves a title shot just yet anyway, one more fight against someone like Swick, Koscheck, Sanchez etc. Alves looked good though.
I still think Hughes will beat Serra. Its pretty clear thats gonna be his last fight.

What the hell happened to you Hughes?
Guys caught up to him, that's all. It happens to the best of them, and it happened to Hughes. Fighters are generally better now than they were three, four, five years ago.
Wow, I'm not a fan of Hughes but I'm kind of sad to see him lose. Oddly enough I might be rooting for Serra in their match. Still kind of sucks to see such a dominant champion on his last legs.
