***OFFICIAL*** - Matt Hughes vs. Thiago Alves DISCUSSION THREAD (pre/post)
Conduct all of your pre & post-fight discussion on the UFC 85: BEDLAM main event (which will now be contested at a catch-weight of 174 lbs. after Alves failed to make weight)...which features the Former UFC Welterweight Champion, Matt "Country Breakfast" Hughes, as he takes on rising Brazilian Welterweight, Thiago "Pit Bull" Alves in HERE, ALL other threads WILL BE MERGED INTO THIS ONE.
Yeah right, Hughes by UD or TKO. This is a complete mis match.
Seriously you think it is a mis match?
If Alves can maintain this fight on the feet I think he will get rid of Hughes quickly but Hughes has great wrestling. I see Alves losing the first round then a close 2nd and then he will TKO Hughes in the 3rd.
Once again, I agree with my boy 6SL. Complete mismatch. Dana wanted to see if Alves was ready for this spot, well, the weigh-ins answered that question for all of us.
Guys, Hughes is a MULTIPLE TIME UFC Welterweight Champion. He's been at the top of the mountain MANY TIMES before, Alves on the other hand, is not even close yet. He's not ready for this main event spot, and it SHOWS by him missing weight. WTF? Rookie mistake, and it wasn't even as bad as Lutter! It was FOUR f'n POUNDS. He wasn't even CLOSE. That's ridiculous. There goes his potential title shot **IF** he happened to come out victorious.
Anyway, look for Hughes to go back to his old ways, and this fight will be eerily reminiscent to his fight with Lytle. Hughes handles the striking, gets in on the shot, gets the takedowns and controls from top position most of the fight. Remember, Hughes is a grunt on top, and the only guy to EVER completely DOMINATE him was Georges St-Pierre. I laugh OUT LOUD at the fact that American Top Team is comparing Thiago Alves to St-Pierre, pertaining to this fight. Give me a f'n break.
Hughes via one of two things, either a late G-n-P stoppage, or Unanimous Decision.

So you think Hughes will just take him down numerous times? Alves has shown some nice TDD and great striking, Hughes will have to stand with him for a little while at least. Alves will start picking hughes apart in the 2nd Round mark my words, Alves will TKO him in the 2nd or 3rd Round.

Hughes is a diffrent beast, and his top game is tremendious...Alves will have a chance for maybe 1 punch at the beginning of each round, mark my words....Hughes TKO or Desision easy....I have Hughes and Roan parlayed together, and parlayed with others , two no brainers of the card.
And I won some nice change when Alves fought Karo...Hughes is a hugh step up from Karo.

One punch before being taken down? that is a bit extreme isnt it. Any way I see what you mean but I dont think you lot are taking into account Alves TDD, I know Hughes is a great wrestler but I believe he will be worned down by the 3rd Round, maybe even a bit gassed. This is going to be a high paced fight and I am not sure Hughes has the tank to maintain Alves and avoid his striking and also have u guys forgotten Alves is a black belt in BJJ? he does have a submission game.
