Vera may not have been taking serious damage but he was getting hit and was not moving. If you are getting hit like that you have to show the ref that you are willing to continue otherwise its going to be stopped. Afterall, it is the referee's job isn't it?
Vera, you lost to a very experienced HW, you have nothing to be ashamed about but looking to ride the clock out was just a bad choice.
Consistancy is the most important in reffing/officiating and I've seen multiple times where fights have gone on worst than this in the UFC. And Pyro stop being a hater, Vera "blames others for his loses"?, hes only had one other loss to Sylvia and he didn't blame anybody, stop making stuff up and making him seem worst. Travis Lutter hit Anderson Silva with way more open punches at full mount than this and that wasn't stopped, if that had been stopped, EVERYBODY would've complained. Consistancy in reffing is key.

He blamed his loss on breaking his hand and didn't give enough credit to Sylvia. Guess what, breaking his hand was his fault, it's not like he was going into the fight with the injury. He should take his losses like a man and stop talking shit about his opponents.
To me the stoppage was fine. I'm sure that he could have turtled for another 15 seconds but that's not really the point of MMA is it? Werdum had him in full mount and was raining away with punches, whether or not Vera says he's ok or not, he wasn't doing anything other than turtling.
As for the Miragliotta, he has shown some inconsistency in the past few weeks which doesn't help the situation. He lets Kimbo take 20-30 unanswered, undefended, helpless shots and doesn't call it and he calls it when Vera takes a few shots and blocks a few.
In my mind the call on Vera is within the guidelines, the only thing that bugs me is the inconsistency.
I don't have a link, but I just re-watched the fight, and Werdum had Vera mounted for 13 or 14 seconds before the referee stepped in. During that time, he threw about 28-30 (it's kind of hard to count because of the speed and video angles) unanswered punches to Vera's head. That's more than 2/sec. They didn't all connect, but most did.
We probably wouldn't be having this discussion if Vera hadn't started bitching about it afterwards.
I think you are all crazy. I think that was a garbage stoppage! I am not saying Vera would have won because Werdum is a great fighter but I think Vera has very just cause to complain.
He only took maybe 3-4 GOOD shots while Werdum was in the mount and even told the ref he was ok multiple times.
I look at it like this. A striker has a standing guy pinned up against the fence and is punching him while the guy is covering on the fence. The ref wont call the fight until the guy drops, meaning he was hit with a good shot. Vera was not being hit with good shots. He was TOTALLY undamaged.
Since Mir and Noguiera will be tied up for so long with TUF there is plenty of time for a rematch with the winner rightfully getting the next title shot.
Vera is a crybaby, he said he was winning the 1st round until the stoppage, that guy is delusional. He always blames his loses on someone and gives his opponents no credit. I would have liked the ref to let the fight continue until Vera was a bloody mess so I didn't have to hear his excuses afterwards.
He definitely wasn't winning the round hands down, but it wasn't a run away round for Werdum either. How exactly could Vera become a blody mess while being punched in the arms though? 2-3 punches might have gotten through and that is it. werdum did very little damage in a very dominant mount.
I don't think the stoppage was all that bad because Vera never tried to advance his position, but Werdum didn't do enoug hto end the fight either. Not one of htose punches caught Vera and rocked him. Vera was still intelligently defemding himself and was doing all he could. I didn't know that you could win a fight by just getting dominant position and throwing ineffective punches.
He got hit more than 3 times, rewatch the fight. And 20 seconds to go with a guy pounding on you is a lot of time.
I just got done watching the fight. He got hit in the arm most of those times. He was clearly still in the fight as he was defending the shots well. he was rolling out of trouble. He was doing all he could to "intelligently defend" himself. Werdum's mount was perfect and Vera was not going ot bench press the guy off of him or slip out the back. He was going to have to ride it out. If it was going on for like a minute or so I would understand the stoppage because Vera had not done anything offensive in a solid minute at that point. But the mount was secured at the 31 second mark and the punches started at like the 29. The fight was stopped at the 18 second mark. 11 seconds of punches to the arms and hands and a couple that snuck through and did no damage. You saw how clearheaded he was after it was called. Eyes forward very present and aware of what was happening and how badly he was robbed of a fight. That was a bad stoppage and I am not a fan of Vera's at all.
