Brandon Vera: "I understand why Fabricio doesn't want to fight me again."

Here's some of the post fight conference with Vera:

http://www.mmaplayground.com/mma-vid...gain-3811.html

He has some good points about the stoppage. I was actually on mmaplayground to see if I could find the fight video because I was coming home from work and I missed the first part of the fight then something went wrong with my DVR so I didn't get any saved footage of the fight to review- which sucks. I really need to see the whole fight from start to finish.

EDIT: Alright I did find the fight and terrible terrible stoppage IMO.

Vera is a crybaby, he said he was winning the 1st round until the stoppage, that guy is delusional. He always blames his loses on someone and gives his opponents no credit. I would have liked the ref to let the fight continue until Vera was a bloody mess so I didn't have to hear his excuses afterwards.

Yeah I definitely don't agree with his assessment that he was winning the first round- no way. But the stoppage was terrible- Brandon wasn't hurt badly previously before being mounted and Fabricio did not land seriously hard strikes while on top. Vera turned away twice but when the only other option is give up your back to a top BJJ like Werdum that's all you can do. He turned and kept his hands up as a defense.

Vera is crazy. He rocked Fabricio once and it wasn't even badly. Vera might not have gotten hurt but how is being flat on your back covering up intellgently defending yourself. I thought the ref should've let it go a little longer but Vera is acting like an idiot. I will give him the benfit of the doubt because it was a post fight press conference so he was probably still upset but wow.

And for Vera to say I know why Fabricio doesn't want to fight me again is crazy. He wants a title fight. Werdum had the first round won before he took him down the 2nd time and while Vera slightly stunned Werdum, Werdum hit Vera solid a couple of times as well.

No, the stoppage was ok, he wasn't fighting back or trying to improve his position, he was there eating shots from a 250lb guy and there were still 20 seconds left in the round, that's a lot of time to dish out punishment. You can't just go into the fetal position and do nothing because the end of the round is 30 seconds away and expect the fight not to be stopped.

I dunno about the stoppage being ok- I've just watched the fight replay and the slo-mo replay of the mount and end of the fight. Once Werdum gets the mount he lands 3-4 good shots quickly, then Vera rolls to his right and gets his hands up, Werdum uses his position to pull Vera's body to a flat back. Vera then attempts a small roll to the left before going back right- the whole time his hands are up and he's not eating clean shots to the grill. At no time does Vera go limp, drop his hands or take multiple uncontested shots- it really looks like the fight should have continued in my mind. He wasn't going to roll over and give Werdum his back which means to me he was still fighting/defending himself intelligently.

IMO, the James Thomson stoppage was far worse. Vera was mounted, doing nothing to get out of it, and ate some decent shots.

JT got rocked but was still standing... And he was actually winning the fight.

The refs seem to be getting worse, but then again it seems to be a necessary evil.

while your arguement is still valid, i think your numbers are a bit off.

I think I would be complaining just as much as Vera if i were in his shoes.

But just lying on your back with your hands up trying to block shots isn't enough. You have to be doing something besides just lying there. Vera is overreacting a bit I mean this isn't a huge robbery if you are mounted and getting hit in the face you can't complain this much when the fight gets stopped.

He knew how much time was left and was just riding out the round. He wasn't taking any real damage.

Now if there were more than 15 seconds left fine....but with that amount of time left, unless Vera was taking some real damage, he should have let him ride it out.....because thats exactly what he was doing.
