I agree with you guys in that heavy weights that just trade hands the whole time are not too exciting. They need to throw in kicks and a ground game as well. Heh, remember the AA vs Tim Sylvia 1? Sylvia did not look like he had much of a ground game, he is a better striker.

Can you guys think of people that could possibly fight over 265lb? Even Tim Sylvia, who I think fights at around 260lb, is a little soft. I don't mean to say he is weak, but I am just saying that is body fat percentage is not as low as it could be - probably because he wants to fight at the top of his weight class.

Maybe some ex-football players could get in on the action. I can't remember his name, but there was a football player that went to some Japenese federation and did very well (and maybe still does), despite having little training at the time. He is huge and athletic. Maybe he could, but I am having trouble thinking of his name.

That is him! I read an article about him once, and it made him seem like he was a better fighter than what the video showed. I looked at his record, and it didn't seem all that bad either. You were right though, the video did make me laugh

He is a good example of what I was thinking. He is like a solid 350lbs, are there more like him? I have pretty much only watched UFC (from the beginning). I do see an occasional k-1 on ESPN from time to time, but I would not call myself an avid follower. Do these other federations (Pride, K-1) have an unlimited heavyweight class?

Thanks again for the info. Bob Sapp is a great example of something I would like to see in the UFC. However, remember that 500+lb sumo from UFC3? That would not be a good example, as he didn't really even do anything sumo, and he couldn't get up after the other guy knocked him down.

I just think its unfair to the smaller HW's who have to compete against guy's who are 30, 40 or 50 pounds heavier.

Back in the day, the UFC used to not have weight classes like they do now. I like the idea of weight classes (makes it more like boxing), but I was wondering if you guys think that they would ever incorporate a super heavy weight class? I know the top now is 265lbs. Also, if they would ever consider making this class, what would the weight range be (230lb - Unlimited)? And what fighters do you think, if any (even Pride etc), could compete in a class like this.
superheavyweight league.. 1, 5 min round... end it quick or go home

i think 206 - 230-235, then open weight after that.

Honestly the chance of getting good fighters over 265 is slim to none.

next up its Big Show at 495 v Kareem Abdul-Jabbar at 300 - i could see it now !!!!.

I agree with you Pogo ... it's too much of a spread, I think Arlovski was even experiencing some problems with Tim Sylvia's size .. Tim won of course and he is NOT the better fighter
