Matt Hughes Blog

Tuesday, October 17, 2006
I've been sick Saturday night through this morning so I haven't done much.
Going to start intense training today for Georges, then this weekend will be nothing but busy, busy, busy as I have several appearances scheduled.
Very surprised about Rich and how his fight went. I never would have thought that it would have gone like that. I hope he's okay and that he gets a rematch soon. Right now, I'm just going to focus on Georges. -Matt

Tomorrow I'm going to New York, Chuck and I will be on ESPN. Fly back tomorrow night.
This week I'll spend Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday morning with my brother getting crops out and also trying to spend as much time with my family as I can.
Thursday night, my wife and I leave for Las Vegas for the UFC. I hope Rich wins, but if Anderson wins I would consider bumping up to 185 and fighting him.
I'll fly home Sunday. -Matt

Ya i watched him and chuck on espns quiet frankly, was a good show.

What is it that is going to be on your mind when you're on your death bed? Will it be the tedious years of 9 to 5, or the memory of some great acheivement. Maybe a moment you stood in glory to the applause of millions.

Does this guy really spend time growing crops or is he just trying to look like a good ole country boy. I wonder how he feels about taking on Silva now. He's surprised about Franklin?

I doubt that watching Silva destroy Franklin scared him at all. He just thinks that he's unbeatable. I would love to see him get in the ring with Silva and try to get out of that Tai clinch.

I live in a town about 1hr and a half from Hughes hometown and he does indeed farm and grow crops. I have seen his house just a pretty simple ranch house nothing extravagant....but he is a farmboy. Well the Thai clinch wouldnt happen on Hughes cause he would go to the ground. Even if he did to think Silva would manhandle Hughes is not likely, Hughes is too strong Silva would figure that out and try to keep it standing, but I actually see Hughes having a real good chance if they fought

Ya Silva's thai clinch would be tossed out the window because hughes would just side slam him (aka swing slam), Silva's best bet would be picking at hughes with punches and kicks for a little bit and then maybe if hughes starts to wear down and show weakness go for a submission.

that'd be my game plan atleast if i was silva.

You guys talk about Silva's clinch like its his only tool.
I really don't think moving up to MW would help Matt Hughes much at all, Love him or hate him he is doing alright at WW and is already going to be in the hall of fame.

I agree, Hughes believes himself to be unbeatable at this point in time. I doubt he fears Silva at all; in fact he probably has some inadvertent disrespect for Frankilin after that fight because he's just thinking "Wow, that surely would not happen to me".

Make no mistake; hughes is strong as hell and has the heart of a bull. But Silva would K matt TFO. That would be an amazing fight to see happen. It'd be like a 185lb Tito Ortiz going up against Lidell.

Theres a very slim chance Hughes gets KTFO. If this was strictly standing hell yes hed be killed. I know Silva is a Blackbelt in BJJ, but Hughes would take this to the ground early and often. Silvas back to back loss's came from submissions. I like my chances if Hughes gets him on the ground which I think he would...would be an interesting fight and if Silva was to win it wouldnt be by a KO. One last thing, if your gameplan is to where Hughes down you are in for a long night as its widely known he along with a few others are second to none when it comes to Cardio
