Hicks is a tough dude and did take him awhile to get the TKO but to me stopping someone as tough as hicks in the first round is quick work!

Jesus, Hicks has a head like a bowling ball for a 155. I never thought Varner could drop him, so big ups to Varner for doing the seemingly impossible. Big ups to Hicks for not being scared to mix it up and showing he is one of the toughest 155 pound guys on the planet. Great fight if you're not a Hicks fan.

Another f$*ked up display from Mazzagatti. Why didn't he stop that fight sooner? Hicks may have been on his feet but he was not intelligently defending himself. Most refs choose to intervene when the contest changes from a "fight" to an "execution".
Mazz makes me sick.

Rush fan Hicks was battling as MMA fans we can't have it both ways.

People complain about stoppages like Miller vs Grispi but want fights like Varner and Hicks to be stopped sooner.

Maz didn't do a bad job in this fight Hicks is just really a tough guy and wouldn't get put down for a long time.

Hicks took alot of punishment and the first time he went down I thought the ref would stop it, but he was back up pretty quickly. I can't really say he was intelligently defending himself once he got back on his feet though. He had a couple of nice takedowns, but unless you're sure you can control your opponent it doesn't seem that beneficial to me to take a guy down so early in the fight.

I agree, he is a very tough guy. Even when the fight was finally stopped, he was still conscious. He showed an excellent chin, he just needs to work on his recovering. He couldn't regain his composure and seemed to desperate for that takedown when he was hurt which is a natural reaction from anyone who gets rocked.

Impressive win for Varner.

I agree completely. Hicks is extremely tough and recovers in mere seconds, even after the final knockout blow. I think the refs are too quick to stop fights these days and applaud Steve for another outstanding job of reffing this fight.
