He couldn't regain his composure and seemed to desperate for that takedown when he was hurt which is a natural reaction from anyone who gets rocked.

The fight had gone out of Hicks well before the fight was stopped. Hicks was far too hurt to effect any further take downs and Varner was always going to demolish an injured and standing Hicks.
The way I see it it is a simple decision to make:
Preventing serious injury to semi-conscious fighter > Crowd seeing brutal KO

I think we can agree that images like Williams KO of Coleman are bad for the sport. Enough big KO's occur where both guys are still "in the fight" all I'm saying is that when a guy becomes a sitting duck he should be protected.

You can't just stop a fight because you think Hicks can't win anymore.

If that was the case Nog would've had a ton of TKO losses by now.

Fighters can make comebacks and if they don't get a chance it is unfair.

Hicks could've survived look at what happened in Varner vs Razor. Hicks got rocked and survived came back and won.

how do you work on your recovery-in training? do you practice getting knocked around? Hicks was a game fighter but for all of his efforts, Varner didn't stay down-he got up at least 3 times. As for Varner, that was quite a show-I wasn't too impressed with him at the Razor fight b/c Razor sucks. Varner put a display on Hicks.
