Anyway, Shogun's shown that he has excellent ground and pound once his opponent has been put on their back. Check out his fight with Alistair Overeem, he caved Alistair's face in with a Fedor-like flying punch!

Shogun even seemed to be quite well adapted to the use of elbows on the ground and the cage in general against Forrest.
This is what I was going to say when I first saw this thread, the only thing people should worry about for Shogun is cardio but he will probably have that fixed when he gets 100% healthy.

This is a bit of a rush to judgment. Every fighter who comes from Pride has a bit of an adjustment to make. He will do fine, just give him some time.

Shogun has an amazing chin and a really good ground game. I still think he has potential to be a top 3 LHW in the UFC.

Like TheNegation said, this isn't accurate. Silva and Shogun both injured their opponents through knees. One led to a broken nose, the other to a broken rib. They are very comparable and both could have resulted in the loss for Rich and Rampage. They both meant to hurt their opponents by kneeing them.

Coleman however, did not. It was a normal takedown. Not even a slam attempt. Just a simple takedown that resulted in a freak accident.

Your first post in this thread, I would agree with you if you said "Right now, Shogun is mediocre." But saying he will be mediocre at best is kind of silly. At best, Shogun could become LHW champ in the UFC and begin dominating again. As of now though, he is slightly above mediocre imo as well.

I agree, the Forrest fight does him no justice.

Forrest is actually really good off his back. He survived Titos flurry and eventually neutralized him. He neutralized Shogun of course. He then went onto neutralize Rampage and even caught him in a triangle. All guys with great ground and pound skills.

If Shoguns arm had broken when Coleman actually slammed him, you might have a point.
Good Post! I hate it when people use the word fluke especially when an upset happens but Coleman vs. Shogun was most definitly that.

No more Soccer Kicks does take away from Shogun's arsenal but what really worries me is what condition he is going to be in December. I'm almost afraid he'll look like Travis Lutter when he fought Rich Franklin.

Villian, I sense here that you are mainly against Shogun because he was hyped and then lost and now you have started the "Shogun was overrated to begin with" argument. Shogun WAS a top 5 LHW. Shogun could be a more than medocre fighter in the UFC. Coleman did not aim to break anything with the sloppy takedown. Shogun fell and for some goddamn reason he didn't fall properly and broke his goddamn arm. (At the ELBOW, not at the middle of the forearm like Tim did. That's the reason Tim didn't express much pain while Shogun did. The elbow is freakin' fragile and full of nerve cells who are eager to respond if you break the elbow)
