If Thiago can get close enough to clinch and take down Machida then I think he can get the job done. But I don't think that is going to happen he is just to quick and elusive. Until someone can actually corner him and trap him, I will keep thinking it can't be done.
Shamrock-Ortiz, I think your right if Chuck wins against Rashad, Dana is going to blow his load because he wont be able to contain himself. Forrest vs Chuck would happen before Forrest vs Machida.

his accomplishments at lower weight don't bump him up in the 205 rankings. you really think he deserves to be ranked 4th simply because he beat Sokodjou and the current Tito? Maybe 8th...

He beat Rich Franklin @ 205, a weight Rich had never lost at prior to their meeting.

While Machida is not anywhere near an "exciting" fighter and to be honest he bores be to death, he is talented and what I like to call "slick". I agree that he has to do something here to appeal to the casual fans and appease the UFC, but I honestly think he can be beaten here. I don't think Silva will slow down or get as frustrated as others have gotten. In the end, I think Machida will win in an exciting match that Silva forces it to be. This opponent may be a god-send to Lyoto because he won't be able to avoid Silva's pace and will have to do something else aside from his usual routine.

It's not his accomplishments that make him a top tier fighter, its what he does to his opponents. Personally he is not one of my favorite fighters, but I am smart enough to know he is damn good. It's almost like what Gracie did to people back in the early days of the UFC except instead of BJJ its Karate. He just makes the other guy look like they stepped off the street. I would put him higher then 4th right now with probably Forrest and Rampage ahead of him just because the division is kind of scrambled. Who else would you put ahead of him? Chuck? 1-2 in his last 3. Wand is 1-3 in his last 4. Shogun hasn't fought since he lost to Forrest last september. Thiago has more KO's but hasn't faced the competetion that Lyoto has. Rashad...well he is a douche bag so I don't want to rank him lol.
I'll be rooting for Thiago, but I think Lyoto takes it.

Looking forward to this fight for sure, both guys have been dominant.
If Machida loses, how far away does that put him from title contention? Maybe him vs the loser of Chuck/Rashad? Same for Silva I guess, but not sure if he's been in the title picture really.

Machida is going to smoke Thiago Silva. I like Silva, but seriously, Machida's on another level. No way Thiago gets Machida to the ground, and if he does, Machida will just get back up. Stand-up wise, yeah, Lyoto takes it. Silva's going to get his first loss at the hands of Lyoto.

Seems like Lyoto is okay with being the first "L" on a fighter's record.
