How well would GSP have done as an Olympic wrestler in Beijing?
So as we know he worked out with the olympic teams in the past and apparently tooled on them, and I had heard that he was going to the trials, but decided not to. Do you think GSP without any wrestling background in high school would have won a gold medal?

Probably not a gold medal but he trains with Olympic caliber wrestlers so I think he could hold his own. There was a thread yesterday about MMA eventually being an Olympic sport. I seriously can't wait for the day.

that would be kickass. but its not even sanctioned in most states, how would it be looked on internationally? I know across the globe there are mma events, yet how is it looked upon by politicians in other countries? If its anything like with ours, then it wont become an olympic game id say

The day will come and I'll still be living, I swear it!
The first form of MMA, Pankration, was originally a Greek Olympic game. Eventually MMA will surpass most sports in the world, at least that's my belief. There is no language or cultural barriers, everyone understands fighting
Mark my words, one day it will happen. And when it does, I can die a happy man.

I'm not sure about a gold medal but I think he could definitely be a top competitor. MMA & Olympic wrestling are different enough so that in an actual match, there may be things in wrestling that limit or hamper GSP such as certain rules or practices that may not have been enforced during his training with the Canadian Olympic wrestling team.

GSP could potentially make the team, but I severly doubt he would win any metal truth be told.
PS. MMA will never be an olympic sport for various reasons.

He'll lose in the first round. If he was good enough, he'd be at the olympics, but he wasn't.
He never did wrestling at high school or college, at least that's what Goldie said, so for greco roman wrestling he can't beat world class wrestlers.

GSP is a wrestling monster, he could probably do it if he dedicated himself full time...
but keeping up with MMA, i doubt he would pass the first rounds.

Anyone that thinks he could win a medal doesn't have all of the information..
GSP trained with mostly olympic reserves, and held his own against them, but never put anyone on their back. This is also the CANADIAN olympic team, which hasn't won a gold medal since I-can't-remember-when.
Don't fool yourself, GSP would get crushed like a potato against real olympic wrestlers.
