Matt Hughes vs. Matt serra is finally going to happen!

Here is the link from mmamania. I am so excited for this and I'm sure a lot of you are too! The real question is who takes this one? Hughes hasn't looked that great in his last couple, and Serra didn't either in his last one. The bad blood will drive them on this though. What does everyone else think?

Matt Hughes 'It's going to be Matt Serra in January or February'
“Right now, I’ve talked to Joe Silva quite a few times and we’re looking at maybe January. He has told me it’s going to be Matt Serra, so I’m looking at January or February. That’ll give my knee plenty of time to heal, if [it heals] natural. If I have to go under the knife, I don’t know what my time frame will be but we’ll see. Right now we’re looking like January.”

– Former welterweight champion Matt Hughes talks on the PWB Podcast about a knee injury that he sustained in his loss to Thiago Alves at UFC 85: “Bedlam″ back in June, as well as his looming showdown with Matt Serra tentatively set for January. Serra and Hughes — who are about as opposite as two people can get — were opposing coaches in The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 6 and were supposed to fight at UFC 79: “Nemesis” in December 2007. However, Serra had to withdraw because of a serious back injury. The pair have been yapping about getting in the Octagon together for more than a year … expect more of the same until this thing is settled.

Even though this was pretty much a forgone conclusion it's good to hear it somewhat officially. Hughes is going to beat the stupid out of Serra. While Hughes is definitely starting to show his age he was worn down by a MUCH BIGGER opponent in Alves which is becoming disturbingly common especially among the Brazilians. Serra is a good bit smaller than Alves, Hughes is going to crush him.

I voted Hughes, because he'll actually be motivated a prepared for this fight.

Serra won't make it easy on him, though. People shouldn't count the Terra out here.

Hughes by UD, 29-28.

Hughes by total domination, I think Hughes could still be a force, I just dont think he has the hunger he used to....but for Serras ass he will be motivated and show him it takes more than one good night to be a legend

I would rather see Serra win this one but I think Hughes can beat him using the same style that he has used all of his career. I think he can get Serra to the ground and control him to a unanimous decision. I don't see Hughes finishing Serra but I don't see Hughes getting caught in a sub either.

Hughes should be able to take Serra down and pound him stupid. I think Hughes should be able to avoid any subs Serra can throw off his back.

Some people think that they can convey either a philosophy on life or a complex political statement using a signature on the internet. I'm not one of them.

If Hughes loses this fight he is pretty much done, it will be really hard for him to rebuild from that point. Im guessing Hughes will win but I could see Serra knocking his ass out as well cuz as everyone knows old Country Club can't strike for shit....but DAMN can he make some pancakes.

As much as I like Hughes, this one will be a tough one for him. The man's lazy and as much as I hate to say it, washed up. I see him taking this one, but by something like split or controversial decision.
