Joachim “Hellboy” Hansen: UFC employment is worse than a bleeding colon

wasnt really sure if i should post this here but a mod can move it to the DREAM section if they want

Quote:

“I would fight any one of the UFC lightweights, but the problem is that I will never put my foot in the octagon after they (UFC) tried to be funny. I would rather have bleeding hemorrhoids than fight for the UFC. The Japanese MMA audience is the best in the world. They make magic! I would rather have one true Japanese MMA supporter than one million fake mainstream supporters that will turn their back on you as soon as you lose a fight. I don’t care about things that are mainstream.”

-Winner of the DREAM 2008 lightweight grand prix and former PRIDE fighter Joachim “Hellboy” Hansen (19-7-1) talks candidly about his love for the UFC and the support of stateside sponsors

He sure does stand up for his oppinions. But a few questions can be asked after this statement:

- Is the perfect japanese fan really real? Aren't they the same fans who want to watch freakshows as main events instead of real fighters fighting?

- Is Hansen not just angry about the ridiculously low purse offered to him from the UFC?

- Does he know how horrible a bleeding colon is? I don't have the experince myself, but it sounds pretty bad! Anderson seems to freakin' love the UFC, I bet Hansen could become a US star with his great character and exiting style...

I have to agree with this part. A Japanese fan can be just as superfiscal as an American fan. The only difference is American fans are more obnoxious about it.

You forget that this isn't just some brutal sport where everyones out to kill each other. Its much more like a game of physical chess.-looney liam

they did have freakshows but they also had the best fights ever with VERY legit fighters. And what do you call Kimbo's fights.

AND

you never hear a japanese crowd BOO. and UFC have a tendancy to BOO just if the fight is a grappling match

i think he's dissapointed but i think he got 1.000.000 yen for winning the DREAM GP. and thats way WAAY more than he would have gotten in the UFC

i think you have to ask Plazzmann about the bleeding colon stuff. he had some experiences after his shady " movie " career

Isn't 1,000,000 yen only like $10000 or 6500euro?

that's a shame. i'd have liked to see him take a run at some of the great competition in the UFC. I am a big Hellboy fan but even so... im not so sure he'd do well vs Florian, Stevenson, Sherk, BJ, or a few others.

Wonder why he doesn't think these deadfast japanese fans of his wouldn't follow him, remotely, to the UFC. I've followed him through a couple orgs from north america (and will continue to do so despite this pretty weak generalization about NA fans). but if he just doesn't like the management/venue then i imagine that is that. hansen doesn't strike me as a guy who would let go of a grudge/decision like that

He only got paid $9,000 for winning the GP and is complaining about the UFC where he could easily get paid at least $100,000? Hansen could easily be just as big here I just think he doesn't like the way Dana carries himself.

I think that's where the "bleeding colon" comment comes in. It's basically a very eloquent way of calling Dana a pain-in-the-ass.

That's the part I don't get. $9,000 for winning a Grand Prix is a little low imo. He could have taken home more in the UFC. For instance his fight with Alverez was Fight of the Night material which would have paid him around $60,000 just for FOTN.

Aside from all that I like hansen a lot he is in my top 10 of favorite fighters. I hope everything works out for him. I like DREAM as well so I don't mind watching him there.
