Tito Ortiz Negotiating Again With the UFC

Tito Ortiz Negotiating Again With the UFC

I always thought that the UFC was the best option for Tito Ortiz going forward, and it looks like he may be reconsidering his decision to leave. Stan Dupp reports in his latest column for the Dayton Daily News that talks between the UFC and Ortiz have resumed:
Now, according to industry insiders, Ortiz is hosting formal negotiations with all the top promotions - Affliction, EliteXC, the AFl and even, surprisingly, the UFC.
"I don't know if we're really negotiating, or simply helping Tito stroke his giant ego," one frustrated company representative said."
Given the respective financial situations of EliteXC and Affliction, neither can afford to pay Tito the kind of money he wants. He made over $900,000 for the fight in May against Machida, nobody is going to be able to pay him that in other organizations.

The UFC wants to lock him up to keep the star power away from other organizations. The real question though for them is how to get the value out of him to pay off that contract when he can't beat the top names in his division. One answer is to try to use him in a more creative way, as a coach again on TUF opposite a star they want to build up.

My guess is we won't see Tito Ortiz fight again for a while. He'll take the time off he needs for his name to gain strength, and come back for a nice payoff.

From:

I see two reasons for this- one the UFC might just be doing this to screw with Affliction's next card- no Fedor no Tito- no guarantee of big PPVs numbers- or to simply drive up Affliction's price for Tito.

Two- Tito is doing this to prove to Affliction he's got options and he wants his outrageous salary.

OK third(I suck at math)- Tito's giant dome just needs some stroking.

Screw Tito plain and simple. The UFC should let Affliction pay top dollar and have him then he can get smoked by Babalu and Affliction will find out what Dana White, The UFC and me already know Tito is Washed up and done. Nothing more than a Big Headed Bumb

Chances make Champion's....Champion's take chances

I really hope that they don't bring him back. If they do, I want to see him fed to people that will destroy him because I'll admit, I like watching him lose.....alot!

I would love to see them give Wandy a fight with him so he can beat Tito down this time. Follow that up with succesive fights with Chuck and Page and maybe Thiago Silva and I think that Tito would be pretty much destroyed.

Actually, now that I think of it, sign him Dana!

I would prefer to see him in UFC to Affliction just because the UFC has money to burn where a signing by Affliction could really affect them. Just sign Arona rather than Tito and have him fight Babalu on Affliction 2

Gonzaga vs dos Santos - UFC on VS
Vera vs Jones - UFC on VS
Bibs vs Hansen - Dream 13
GSP vs Hardy - UFC 112
Gomi vs Florian - UFN 21
Nelson vs Struve - UFN 21

i love this thinking, bloodjunkie, but oh god, i just can't watch tito anymore. i am so done! but wouldn't a rematch with wanderei silva be such a sweet and savory moment of universal re-alignment. this really has me thinking now, considering how much i personally enjoyed watching lyoto make a laughing stock out of tito...i could really see myself enjoying watching more of the same.

it'll make dana look like tito's b*tch. I can't see Dana letting Tito's t-shirt tell him how it's going to be.

but if you look at it from bloodjunkie's angle, dana could make tito into his own, personal, little, blood-spattered puppet making him fight fighters that are now seemingly totally out of his league, or no pay check if he doesn't. it could be one of the sweetest dishes of revenge ever served! imagine this december scenario: Chuck Liddell versus Forrest Griffin and Tito Ortiz versus Andersen Silva! i would pay A LOT of money to see that
