Dana hints at GSP vs Silva catchweight fight plus more NEWS!

http://mmarated.com/articles/article...ded-16330.html

Quote:
MMARated.com's Jeffrey Lee attended today's UFC 90 press conference at the Millennium Park in Chicago, IL, and is reporting these interesting tidbits from the event:

* Dana White announced that Mike Swick will be added to the card but stopped short at saying who his opponent will be.

* Chicago is the UFC's #1 market for pay-per-view revenue.

* When all is said and done, UFC 90 will be the highest-grossing event in the 28-year history of the Allstate Arena, smashing Wrestlemania 22's record of 2.4 million dollars.

* As of Noon today, UFC 90's gate has already reached the two million dollar mark.

* White said Anderson Silva could potentially move up to light heavyweight again if he defeats Patrick Cote on October 25th.

* Furthermore, he even hinted at a possible GSP vs. Silva bout at an undetermined catch weight.

* The winner of the Diego Sanchez vs. Thiago Alves bout will receive a welterweight title shot.

* Speaking of Alves, he vowed to have no more issues making weight at 170 lbs.

Stay tuned for more footage/coverage from the press conference.

Wow, I wanna see the footage when it comes out. Also, did they even do the UFC 88 and 89 press conferences yet?

Dana White looks like such a weirdo when he is staring at the fighters like that. Alves by TKO...either that or Sanchez by guitar case machine gun.

Favorite Fighters
1.) WAND
2.) Nick Diaz
3.) Korean Zombie

Really, really happy to hear him confirm the winner of Alves/Sanchez gets a title shot.

But in regards to Silva/GSP how could it be at a catchweight? Silva already cuts from like 215. Could he get lower than 185?

Gonzaga vs dos Santos - UFC on VS
Vera vs Jones - UFC on VS
Bibs vs Hansen - Dream 13
GSP vs Hardy - UFC 112
Gomi vs Florian - UFN 21
Nelson vs Struve - UFN 21

Yea, he could, at least he use to. I say make it at 178 or something like that.

I don't see how it could be such a highly grossing event. I mean, I have the least bit interest in seeing A. Silva putting a beating on Cote and Diego/Alves isn't appealing as well.

It's nice to see Alves get his title shot though. I doubt Diego will get a title shot if he wins.

I don't know why alot of people are so worried or intrigued in a silva pierre fight,,, silva would kill st pierre,, pierre hasn't got a chin as we saw in the Matt serra fight,, the only competition for silva is in the 205 class,, and that is only 2-3 people in that class,

UFC is doing some interesting stuff. I'm just can't figure out why, in the 1st pic there, the UFC has Antonio Banderas facing off with Thiago Alves??

I suspect a GSP vs Silva matchup would only take place after and if GSP beats Penn and the winner of Sanchez/Alves.

I quickly checked some mma rankings at http://mmaworldrankings.wordpress.com/

All rankings are subjective I know but overall the top 10 ww looks pretty good. It shows GSP's dominance in the ww division.

1 Georges St-Pierre - can't beat yourself
2 Thiago Alves
3 Josh Koscheck - win
4 Jon Fitch - win
5 Diego Sanchez
6 Jake Shields EliteXC
7 Matt Hughes - win
8 Karo Parisyan - win
9 Matt Serra - win
10 Carlos Condit WEC

Both Sanchez and Alves have lost to fighters GSP has already beat.

If GSP beats the winner of Sanchez/Alves I'd say he's cleaned out the division unless the UFC can bring in Shields or Condit.

That would give GSP a legitimate claim to challenging Silva imo.

the Sanchez Alves fight just got even more interesting now that the winner officially gets a title shot! Cant wait to see it and it should be the best fight on the card...
