Rani Yahya vs. Yoshihiro Maeda!

http://mmamania.com/2008/08/20/yoshi...for-hard-rock/

Quote:
A solid bantamweight fight between Yoshiro Maeda (23-5-2) and Rani Yahya (12-4) was announced by the WEC today for its at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Fla., on September 10.

We all remember Maeda from his three round war against division kingpin Miguel Torres at WEC 34 in June. Unfortunately for the Japanese fighter, he wasnít able to answer the bell for the fourth round because of a doctorís stoppage.

But he was able to open a lot of eyes with the way he went toe-to-toe with the champ, who is widely considered to be a top 10 pound-for-pound fighter in the world. Itís a step up in competition for anyone when they face Torres, and Maeda was ready for the challenge.

However, he canít expect a huge drop off in talent when he faces Rani Yahya. Obviously, the 23-year-old Brazilian has a long way to go in his development as a complete mixed martial artist, but the kid is a submission whiz, boasting 10 wins by way of tapout.

Yahya has won one and lost one while fighting in the WEC. His win was a a first round submission (rear naked choke) over Mark Hominick (16-8) at WEC 28 in June of last year. His loss was a unanimous decision to former champion Chase Beebe (11-3) at WEC 30 last September.

The 135 pounders are always exciting to watch. The WEC has done a nice job introducing them to the main stage of the mixed martial arts world. This fight is a very nice addition to an already promising show.

WEC 36 features a main event featherweight title fight between champion, Urijah Faber and challenger Mike Brown. The highly anticipated rematch between middleweight champion Paulo Filho and Chael Sonnen is also set for this card. Throw in two other high profile fights (Jens Pulver vs. Leonard Garcia and Rob McCullough vs. Donald Cerrone) and the WEC has another canít miss event set for mid September.
Awesome to see Yahya back, it seems an age since his fight with Kid. I might have to go watch that now actually, quality fight.

Very excited for this fight

Yoshiro is a freaking warrior- he couldn't see because of the swelling and even punched at air at the end of the 3rd round and he kept trying to fight against Torres. Dude is tough.

Maeda is a beast but I'm picking Rani mostly because I love the lack of striking he shows.

I think he will win this 1st round submission.

How can you love something that leaves you so wide open to being knocked the **** out? lol

I'm picking Maeda via decision, he's tough, but I don't think he'll be able to finish Yahya.

I don't know about that, sure, Maeda got choked out by Joe freakin' Pearson, but that's because he was stupid. He's beaten Fredson Paixao, who is a way better grappler than Rani.

I think Maeda will probably win but honestly I would give Yahya a solid chance. He has great submission and probably one of the best names in MMA. He could defiantly pull this off.

Wow this is a great match up! I'm seriously excited for this match up. I'm gonna go with Maeda by TKO but Yahya can always catch him... ya never know

This fight is going to be an awesome war.

I know that Yahya is looking for a fight with Torres (and as the guy who hasn't fought him yet, he's looking like he's in a good position) and Maeda wants a win over a substantial fighter to establish as a contender and a long term gatekeeper for the division.

Maeda really impressed me, and I think that his fighting style is exciting and different, and so I want to see him win this one. It's not because I don't think Yahya's a great fighter, it's just that I don't think he's as good for the division as Maeda.
