stop bringing up the damn spencer fisher fight...that was his ufc debut and his ground game wasn't that good then (was it like 3, 4 years ago?)...but lately, it's looked very solid...when was the last time we saw Hughes get a takedown and have absolutely nothing to offer from the top position? then there's the karo fight...he could do nothing w/ thiago on the ground...hell, even tony desouza was getting pummeled and got mounted by thiago....

thiago's ground game is so ridiculously underrated right now it's he going to submit diego? probably not, but diego will having nothing to offer him...and whose to say diego will even be able to get him down and hold him there? diego's wrestling is below average for the division and thiago stuffed most of hughes' takedowns....

and then there was the ridiculous comment about how luigi's striking is on par w/ thiago' is just crazy talk

i'll gladly sigbet anyone that thiago wins

I think Sanchez's almight chin and his tenacity is going to win the fight for him. Sure, he'll eat a couple of shots to get the fight to the ground, but I'm pretty confident that he will submit Alves.

Thiago has a good ground game Diego has a great ground game.

Also Hughes wasn't setting up his takedowns at all in that fight and when he got him down he struggled but a lot of things in that fight have to be questioned since Thiago didn't get even near the weight.

Sanchez has better stand up then Hughes and is better on the ground.

Yeah, that fight I've seen.

Still, I've heard stories about everyone talking about Thiago's strength when he roles with Aurelio and similar guys.

I'm going with Diego as the superior grappler in this fight, and I think that he's probably also the superior striker (though everyone seems enamored with Thiago's thai skills, I keep remembering that Joe Riggs knockout).

I've got Diego by UD. Diego will outclass him in every aspect other than strength. Diego will come in with more technical striking and be able to out-box Thiago. Diego will take this one clean an clear. Just wait and see. Thiago has powerful striking, but I can easily see Diego using his improving stand-up game to keep Thiago from harming him. Thiago has enough nut-huggers already and I'd like to see Diego derail this hype train.

I don't think Alves should be a WW but assuming he does manage to make weight I expect him to beat Sanchez. I hope Sanchez wins but Sanchez is a small WW, Alves an enormous one. Sanchez is probably going to be giving away 20 lbs when they step into the cage, that is a HELL of a lot at WW if your opponent is anywhere near your skill level.

I think this will look alot like Sanchez-Fitch and Alves will just bully Diego. I'd like to be wrong.

Sanchez has a better chin, better takedowns, and better conditioning. I've been anti-Diego since he was on TUF but I think im more anti-Alves since he shouldn't even be fighting at 170.

Alves managed to bully around old man Hughes, mind you he probably weighed 190 at least in that fight. Before that he caught Karo "Fatty" Parisyan with a good shot.

Diego will be in shape, and will be Alves' toughest fight yet, and I don't even think afterwards Alves will have proven to be Diego's toughest fight.

Diego via GnP 30-27's all around.

I really think that Sanchez is going to take this fight and I think Karo would win in a rematch also. I think Diegos staandup is very underated and I dont think Thiago is going to get the best of him. He is stronger and hits harder but I think Sanchez is faster. If Diego gets it to the ground I think Thiago is in some serious trouble.

Thiago Alves has great leg kicks, but his boxing is average at best. Even Karo was outboxing him and Karo's stand-up is still just improving. Diego's been working on his stand-up for just as long as Karo, and with consequently better results, so I wouldn't be surprised if Diego lands more punches than Thiago.

That said, Thiago's a massive WW, and I suspect once he starts landing leg kicks, Diego's going to try bringing the fight to the ground. Thiago's had problems with smaller, quicker WW fighters on the ground, and Diego is probably the fastest/most technical smaller welterweight in the division.

I think Diego wins a unanimous decision.

Are you kidding?

Thiago is a beast with serious skills, but does anyone actually think this guy will make weight? He couldn't make weight to fight a former world champion (perhaps the biggest fight in Alves's career)? No way! If the fight happens Sanchez by submission in 2. Alves will gas quickly in a fight with Diego if he makes weight.
