Dana out to destroy Couture?

Quote:
M-1 Global president Vadim Finkelstein comments on the signing of the contract between UFC and Couture and reflects upon Dana Whiteís words about Affliction and Fedor Emelianenko.

I believe Randy knows what heís doing. Heís an awesome athlete, one of the worldís best. I know he got tired of these endless litigations and uncertainty that arose after his resignation. UFC had Randy in the contractual trap so he had to choose an easier solution to the problem.

As for his potential bout with Fedor Ė all the MMA fans are eager to see this happen. The statements mister White still makes about Fedor alert me. It looks as if White is reluctant to let the best fighter in the world fight the UFC symbol. Iím afraid weíll stumble upon the bricks of the UFC monopoly and the negotiations will lead nowhere. This fight the fans await might never materialize.

Randy has proved long time ago to be Americaís number 1, heís got nothing more to prove but this contract brings him back to the position where he has again to fight younger athetes in order to earn the right heís already earned to face the best. Randy is a mature fighter and putting him to the test now and again seems not quite reasonable to me. Everyone wants to see Fedor vs. Randy. Apparently Dana plans to destroy Randy by signing him to three bouts. White believes that Couture wonít pass through the hard trial without loss so that eventually the champion will stay with the UFC. Randy is 45 and he defeated a lot of great adversaries but now he is set to face some upstart athlete who Dana intends to turn into the national star if he pulls the victory against the long-time hero. Fight is fight and anything can happen. All this reminds me of the Pride situation when the organization was bought out with the sole goal of completely destroying it.

Thatís why it looks like there will be no Randy-Fedor fight ever although we are eager to make it happen, both fighters are eager to get it on.

Fedor is the number one fighter in the world and we always try to give him the bouts against the best opponents while all the statements of White doubting Fedorís status are caused by the awareness of the fact that the power of the UFC in the world of MMA is not overwhelming. They canít own every fighter they covet. UFC is very well-known and possesses lionís share in MMA industry because of its history and popularity accumulated during the years that the organization exists.

In our turn we negotiate a longterm collaboration with Affliction. We build a global project helping fighters from all over the world gain fame. Thatís why we launched international M-1 Challenge. We want to organize huge events in order to promote MMA and make it popular in the whole world and not in the context of one particular country. We work hard on achieving the goals we set and time will tell whose path was right.
I disagree with M-1 on this one, especially when he says putting Randy to the test seems not reasonable, does he really think the UFC would have gone to all the trouble of getting Randy back just to have him fight some cans so the fans can watch him steamroll some nobodies to finish off his career?

I though the article made the supposed intent of the UFC clear by saying Dana tyrue intention is to use Randy to hype Lesner and if Randy doesnt beat Lsner i bet thats exactly what you see Dana White do.....Dana is a snake in the grass and ts unfortunate because all the good he has done for the sport of MMA is overshadowed by his asshole behavior.....that asshole behavior has definatly bumped up a notch since these other promo's have been around ie....XC and Affliction....

Dana comes accross cocky and arrogant and another example is "I'm out of the Tito Ortiz business" then he blocks negotiations with Affliction at one point, saying were not gonna stand by and let that happen.....

This is Randy's fault for not fulfilling the original contract. He should have just finished his two fights and left the UFC if he wanted to fight Fedor.

On the other hand, I think Dana should be a little more flexible than normal in signing Fedor but no one knows the true details of those negotiations other than Dana and Vadim.

This guy is a joke. He expects Dana to give up what Randy wanted in a contract and expects the UFC to bend over for Fedor. UFC does not need Fedor. Fedor's cohorts ask way too much for what it's worth. It's a shame that it's easier for Fedor's management to blame the UFC when they are also the problem. Fedor will continue to be supreme, but he will also continue to fight less than stellar competition. Hopefully we will get to see him fight Barnett and Arlovski without a bunch of bullshit fights in between.

Everyone thought that Sylvia's goofy ass wasn't less than stellar competition and Fedor walked right through him.......UFC has a pretty weak HW division right now also

Finkelstein: Dana White Wants To Destroy Couture

How does Dana destroy a top HW, Couture is a gamer and wants to be #1 he'll fight who ever the UFC wants, I dont buy the whole theory because frankly if you think your #1 nobody can set out to destroy you by giving you good fights, I also think its funny coming from the guy who probably thinks Dana should match Couture up against Rich Franklin and Giant Silva.

This is why the other orgs are a ******* joke. They feed their stars cans and refuse to make real fights. The UFC actually has enough stars to where they don't need to babysit anyone, every championship fight is a legit championship fight.

Care to name these other organizations? I remember the UFC feeding Chuck Liddell certain fighters and then when he fought an actual opponent, in Rampage, Chuck loses.

All organizations build up certain fighters. That's how they get the fans hooked.

I think what he was trying to say Kameleon was that Fedors management basically sounds like there opionion on Couture is that the UFC should basically treat him the way Elite XC has Kimbo or that Gary Shaw felt Dana should have treated Lesnar.
