The whole reason people wanted to see Hughes/Serra anyway was because the two guys hate each other. We definitely knew that neither guy would be holding onto the belt for long with guys like GSP, Yoshida, Fitch, Stun Gun, and Koscheck nipping at contention, so I believe the match-up maintains its significance.

Personally, I was never that interested in this fight. It was just one of those things that had to happen because Matt Serra pulled an upset in a match he should have never gotten in the first place. The only way they could have promoted a fight like this (which wouldn't have excited anybody at the time) was to put them on TUF!

If this match were to happen Matt Hughes would **** Matt Serra! Serra's jiu jitsu never transitioned well into MMA! Hughes on the other hand fought better jiu jitsu fighters then Serra! Also, Serra's takedown defense is a joke! So its really a no brainer who is going to win this one!

You forget that this isn't just some brutal sport where everyones out to kill each other. Its much more like a game of physical chess.-looney liam

A better question is what the hell is he smoking with "better stand up". One lucky punch on GSP and suddenly Sera is a top level striker? LOL. He's had one KO in his whole freaking career. That's a 7% KO rate. Hughes has almost a 30% KO rate, four times Sera's.

TKO.

I could whoop Matt Hughes standing. With my hands tied behind my back, blindfolded, with a werewolf sodomizing me.

I have never bought into the Serra hype. If it wasn't for him being champ for a period of time, there is no way he would be considered a top 10 WW like he is now. I'm not saying his win was a fluke, but GSP showed what should have happened back in April. After reading this thread, I would say Serra may have some of the most overrated striking in the division. Before the first GSP fight, would anyone have even considered him dangerous on his feet? Heavy hands alone doesn't make a good striker.
Even though I hate Hughes, I don't want to see the greatest champion of all time in the UFC go out with 3 losses in a row. I think he pounds on Serra for 3 rounds taking a UD or 3rd round TKO. The only way I see Serra winning is a big KO (which is probable) or his pateneted foot stomps against the cage, lol.
