i see your point guys, but i thought u were basing him being a let down because he lost both fights. Maybe if he improves his cardio he;ll getr better respect. I gotta admit tho, theres no excuses not making weights, especially for a title shot!!

It's not just his cardio. The lack of cardio also calls his dedication into question. If you're not gonna bother training hard for two HUGE opportunities, then you don't deserve respect. He blew it against Silva making weight. Ok fine. But gassing against Franklin in his next fight after nearly winning? There's no excuse other than a lack of dedication to his career. Since that seems to be the case, I've lost respect for him. He's proven to be a waste of talent. And it's a damn shame to be honest.

Lutter had Franklin mounted almost easily, a little more setup on that arm bar and I think he gets Franklin to tap out in the 1st, but that is all he has, if he can't finish it in the first round he is done, every top 10 middleweight that survives the first round will beat him. IMO he needs to go train w/ Clay Guida or GSP w/GJ for about 4 months - then maybe we'll get a chance to see what he is made of otherwise maybe he can make a living as a JJ coach

I think hes a complete letdown and a joke and whatever other name you can come up with. Not getting in shape and making weight for the biggest event of your life COMPETING FOR A CHAMPIONSHIP BELT and then gassing facing another top middleweight is appauling!!

Hes got tonnes of potential and I hope he gets his act together rather than being a lazy sorry excuse for a fighter.

Maybe calling Lutter a joke is a bit harsh, but he is one of the worst products of the Ultimate Fighter.

While I guess it's fair to reconcile this with the fact that he was a part of TUF 4, the veteran's show, it's still hard to look at his record and call him a top tier fighter, or even a legitimate gatekeeper.

Who has he beaten? Patrick Cote, Marvin Eastman, and...

I won't deny that his two wins against Cote and Eastman were impressive. The way he caught Eastman was solid, and he definitely took advantage of Cote's poor training in the Finale of TUF 4.

That said, to say that Travis gave Anderson his toughest test to date is a little ridiculous.

Dan looked much better again Anderson than Travis did, in the first round, and, I'll be honest, I didn't think that he was in serious trouble in that Lutter fight. Alot of people did, and he was in a bad position, but the fact that Lutter couldn't finish from there didn't surprise me, and I think that says alot about Lutter, though it certainly says alot about Anderson too.

Realistically, Lutter has fought some very good guys, but he's never beaten any of the top tier guys he's fought. He got beat by Lindland, Anderson and Franklin, and on top of that he has the losses to Prangley and Rivera, who I consider second tier fighters.

The fact that Lutter is 2-2 against second tier fighters (I'm being generous by calling Marvin Eastman a tier two fighter, since he performs better there than he does at 205) speaks to his career.

Does that mean he's a joke? No.

But he's not really legitimately defensible.

I think alot of people feel this way about Lutter....he's one of those guys that shows at times like he is capable of being dominant but always lets you down........

who knows why......

Basically, Lutter's a talented guy, who happens to be extremely lazy. He has no coaches, he just doesn't really care to really get in shape for fights. He thinks that he's always going to take his opponents down and sub them. He's got a really good ground game and some nice wrestling, but really, he could be so much better. Total waste of talent.

He's so bad that even Goldie can announce when Lutter's done! Repeatedly.

Someone has said it already. Going into a fight without cardio is just unacceptable. Sure you can go two hard rounds with Clay Guida, be exhausted in the third and get beat that way. But with Lutter, he's dead tired by the start of the second round! To me, that shows he's trying to cut corners in training which doesn't work in today's game.

If I'm not Mistaken....... Didn't Lutter get released by the UFC?

He shouldn't be associated with them in a thread because of his cardio and sheer unprofessionalshipism.

Uh, huh. That's a word. J.P.
