I've retired from the business of sarcasm, it won me too many neg reps in the past.

But as a connoisseur of the unpopular art, I applaud the skilful delivery.

Positive rep.

I don't think Cote would have the cardio to run 5 rounds with Silva chasing him around the Octagon.

Exactly.

I think Silva will win, but Aaronyman, you asked for a gameplan and I gave you my thoughts. There are similarities between Cote and Leben, but don't discredit the differences as well.

like better head and body movement and crisper striking.

Not to forget that Cote sticks to gameplans, isn't anywhere near as wild as Leben was when he fought Silva, and fights out of a completely different camp. There are so many variables that people are overlooking, and that's stupid because every fighter is different.

In a world where Rashad Evans can KO Chuck Liddell in the most devastating fashion of his UFC career, I believe anything can happen.

If Cote is Greg Jackson trained (true or false) he could very well deliver the upset.

Anderson Silva is bad ass, don't get me wrong. But he is definitely beatable.

If Cote is training to do damge in the clinch, and deliver punishment on the ground I think he would have a chance. I think it's very hard for fighters to turn Anderson's strengths against him.

He has a long reach, but likes to finish fights in the clinch. Train constantly in the clinch and punish Silva everytime he tries to close the distance.

Same on the ground: Don't just LNP or you're going to get caught. I have a feeling that Silva's not interested in recieving a lot of damage in that pretty face. Throw some 'bows when you're in the top position.

I can't say what Cote has trained, but my gameplan and training would culminate to:
Close the distance and negate Silva's closed-quarters strengths with punishment.

leg kicks, lots and lots of leg kicks. Keep your distance, and land the leg kicks. When they start to take a toll, take him down, and if he gets back up, rinse and repeat.BTW, i did see the irvin fight, and i think it was a good gameplan, only he didn't disguise his kicks and telegraphed them.

Seriously, watch every single one of Silva's fights and you'll notice that in the first minute he's very flat-footed and allows his opponents to throw things at him so he can figure out distance and what they have to offer. Once that first minute passes, he puts some spring into his step and he just lets shit fly. I expect Cote's camp to have noticed this, and they'll try to exploit it anyway they can.

Personally, I think Cote will get caught at one point or another, but if he were to have a gameplan.. I'd imagine it would consist of striking to takedowns, then holding Anderson down and avoiding submissions throughout the entire fight. Easier said than done though.
Good Points. I think this is what Cote will do also. He'll need to train lots in the clinch though.

I'm hoping he pulls it off. Cote by TKO R2/R3.

Thanks, I hope he surprises Anderson and pushes him to at LEAST the third round. If Anderson's going to retire, I think we all want to see as much of him as we can.

Yeah, Irvin didn't even work his way up, he started right away with a body kick which was borderline retarded. You need to throw technical combinations with hands and feet if you want any hope of catching Silva, even then you're entering his terrain which is a terrible idea.

Cote will lose no matter what his game plan is...

...I'll just quote one of Cro-Cop's old sayings " Everybody has a gameplan until they get hit". Cote won't get past the 2nd round. Man...the UFC could make an Ultimate Knockouts DVD on Anderson Silva alone. Silva hasn't just been beating everybody...he's been DOMINATING everybody. Anderson Silva has no weakness...if so...nobody has found it yet. With Silva peaked right now jumping Divisions, that's insane. Could Cote move up to 205 and beat Rich Franklin or James Irwin? I seriously doubt that.
I would not be surprised to see The Spider wearing the LHW belt in a year from now...
