UFC Fort Bragg "Fight for the Troops" Event Not Yet Approved by U.S. Army

UFC President Dana White said on live national television during the broadcast of UFC Fight Night 15 that the event would take place at Fort Bragg and would send proceeds to the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund. The UFC has staged an event on a military base. On December 13th, 2006 the UFC held UFC Fight Night 7 at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar in San Diego, California.
The extent to which the negotiations have taken place or if/whether there are any stumbling blocks is not yet known. However, it seems premature of the UFC to announce this event and the location without having finalized contractual plans to host the event on military grounds. The event page for "Fight for the Troops" on UFC.com does not list Fort Bragg or any other venue as hosting the event.

I am sure Dana will get the contract done, but it will make look like a dumb*ss if they end up not going there after announcing it on live TV.

Thanks for the link!

I'm sure this will happen. I highly doubt it would be announced in such a way if it wasn't going to go down. It is most likely just getting all the right paperwork and official wording down about the event with the Army. Many things like this are little tidbits that get blown way out of proportion. I guess we will all see here shortly though

I don't have a doubt that they will get this all squared away. The military gets to use shows like these as a huge marketing tool and basically a long extended commerical for the armed forces. Plus the UFC hits one of their prime demographics- males 16-34.

Worst case scenario is that they just do it off-base somewhere. Dana won't look stupid....does anyone really care where it's held? I sure don't.

Demian Maia may be the Fred Astaire of jiu-jitsu, but it’s too bad Silva is the Gene Kelly of kicking everyone’s ass.
