Silva vs Cote- what were the UFC thinking??!

I know its old news about the matchup but i still cant work out why Cote is getting a shot, is it because the UFC owe Silva for stepping up to 205 for them? and want to give him a easy return to MW?, no disrespect meant to Cote but he is in comparison too one dimensional for Silva to be threatened by so why was this matchup arranged?
IMO this is a very poor matchup by the UFC and fans will get not a lot of value for money on this fight.

Okami was supposed to fight Silva but broke his hand so Cote filled in.

There doesn't seem to be much else the UFC can throw at Silva as a MW at this point. Silva has pretty much beaten anybody else in the MW division who could be considered a contender. Cote is on a 5 fight win streak in the UFC and has a solid record against some solid/decent oppositon so it seems logical.

Cote is pretty much the clear cut contender at 185 IMO even more so than Okami was, he has fought and beaten guys who were better on the ground than Anderson and although he isnt as technichal standing Cote has never been knocked out and hits like a brick shit house, Silva may be the heavy favorite but dont kid yourself for a moment into thinking Cote is either not deserving or not a legitimate threat to Anderson.

I really dont think Cote deserves this title shot...but looking at what Silva did with the rest of the contenders...I guess why not...Cote won his last 5 fights...looking forward to Silva KO another one.

There's no other MW contender... The LW and WW titles are on hold for BJ/GSP 2, the LHW title is on hold until Rashad/Forest, the HW title is on hold until Couture/Lesnar & Mir/Nog, there is already one non title "PPV" (free on spike) set up, so the MW title needs to be defended; with Okami suffering from a broken hand, and Silva having defeated all other threats, what's another viable option?

Answer: None.

Kampmann and Palhares just lost, Cote's on a win streak, why shouldn't he get a title shot? Because you've ruled him out as just another spot on Anderson's highlight reel?
