Keith Jardine - Confident and smart or just plain stupid?

As many of you know, I love the Dean of Mean. But damn, does he sound confident in interviews...on the ufc.com website he says...

-the wanderlei fight is a fight i win 9 times out of 10...i truly believe that

-every fight i get a little closer to perfection

the prefight hype before the fight @ ufc 84 he said regarding his bout w/ Wanderlei

-i'm the better boxer, kickboxer, wrestler and grappler

Keith is undeniably a top 10 LHW...but if I didn't hug his nuts, I'd find those kind of statements really really ridiculous.

I dont think keith is even in the top 20.

Alexander Houston - already beat him
Tim Boetsch
Stephan Bonner
Rashad Evans
Shogun
Wanderlei
Rampage
Matt Hammil
Rich Franklin
Machida
Forrest Griffin
Tito Ortiz - Maybe
Thiago Silva
Sokudjou
Brendan Vera

These are all guys id put infront of keith and thats just the UFC list, except for tito. I also think Keith would beat Houston in a rematch though.

I personally don't get it with Keith Jardine. Now I know you think he is a top 10 LHW but I personally think he is an average to above average LHW.

Jardine has a big head for a guy with 2 good wins. Honestly I don't think Vera is that good either but if Jardine takes him lightly he will lose.

This is gonna be interesting.

Alexander Houston - already beat him - So what? That to this day remains Houston's biggest win.
Tim Boetsch - No, lol.
Stephan Bonner - No.
Rashad Evans
Shogun
Wanderlei
Rampage
Matt Hammil - No.
Rich Franklin - I love Rich, but no.
Machida
Forrest Griffin
Tito Ortiz - Maybe - No.
Thiago Silva - No, who has he beaten at 205 to put him ahead of Jardine?
Sokudjou
Brendan Vera - No, who has he beaten at 205 to put him ahead of Jardine?

My thoughts.

I agree with Fedor>All on that one.
I reckon Rich v Jardine would be a fukn crazy fight. I also think that people are underrating Jardine after his loss to Wandi, (so are the bookies, and taking advantage of that one :D) but i reckon Jardine is fukn great fighter, just needs to escape the first minute against Vera and get into his game and he'll win

I think Jardine is tailor made for Vera. Jardines stand up is fairly slow and predictable and lacks power in the hands.
Vera didn't look good in his last fight but I'm confident he will bring it against Jardine. Vera wins the fight either standing or on the ground.

Jardine is an excellent tactician, although I feel as though he's over-matched here. Vera has far more tools on the feet, superior Muay Thai and a competent ground game that compliments his striking. Jardine obviously has a style of which could very well aggravate Vera for 15 minutes, which is a great possibility given the notion that Vera hasn't looked impressive since melting Mir two years ago. In the same context, Jardine has looked great against non-aggressive fighters that have been reluctant to push the pace. Vera has never been one to bull-rush his opposition or anything of the kind, but he has the definite skill set to give Jardine problems.

I favor Vera solely because being a tactician and a gamer can only get you so far without having the potent base or thwarting skill in any other facet. But Jardine definitely has the ability to come in prepared to negate Vera's advantages.

Stupid is is stupid does! -Forrest Gump!

Okay people, we have this argument everytime a fighter opens his mouth during a pre-fight interview. OF course he is going to say those things.

What did you expect him to say?

Wanderlei Silva would kick my ass 9 out of 10 times!

My grappling sucks!

There's no improvement in my boxing or kickboxing since my bout with Wanderlei!

I have no confidence in my abilities what so ever!

He has to show people he has confidence in himself or people will not be to interested in him or his fight with Brandon Vera!

Jardine is hit or miss for me. He can be at the top of his game, when he fought Lidell, or just plain suck, when he fought Alexander.

It's a matter of Jardine wilting under pressure against aggressive strikers that are going to push the pace. Houston brought the fight to Jardine immediately once the fight began, and while I feel a rematch would go quite differently, he proved against Wand that he has absolutely no answer after the initial rush.

Jardine is absolutely Top 10 material, even though he doesn't have an abundance of skill in any area, he's an excellent tactician and that much should be acknowledged. As for his comments, I can't say I agree with any of them but he isn't the first nor the last to come out with statements like that.
