Just curious cuz I see this fight happening down the road

I think a matchup between Gonzaga and Nogueira is inevitable and has the potential to be a great fight. Whether this fight is a title shot or not is a huge factor in who wins this fight IMO.

In a 3 round fight I think Gonzaga beats Nog and beats him pretty easily. When it comes to pure bjj, I think Gonzaga has the advantage. Gonzaga has the best top game of any other bjj fighter in the HW division. And Nog has the best guard in the HW division. Which makes for an interesting chess match. Thus far Nog hasnt had to worry about anyone in his guard elbowing him in the face and it could cause him alot of problems, problems he never had to deal with (ala Crocop). This could effect his abilty to pull off submissions, not to mention he would have a bjj world champion on top of him and not some wrestler like Coleman. I could see Gonzaga really working Nog over while in his guard and maybe even finishing him.

Now if this this fight were to stay on the feet, I would give Gonzaga the advantage as well. His leg kicks are fierce and his hands are extremely heavy. I dont see Nogueira having much luck trading with the powerful Gonzaga.

But if Nog were to somehow get Gonzaga on his back I think he could get the win. But in a three round fight I dont think he could pull it off. I know GG gassed against Werdum but I believe he has learned from that and has worked on his cardio. But in a 5 round fight I could still see his cardio being a problem and I think Nog would capitalize on it and end up finishing Gonzaga.

So in a Non Title fight I think Gonzaga wins in impressive fashion.

Title Fight, I think Nog pulls something out of his hat ala the Tim Sylvia fight.

I'm going to catch a lot of hate for this, but...

I think Gonzaga wins either way.

Nog's stand-up is not that great. I think Gonzaga picks him apart. The difference between a potential fight with Gabriel than the Sylvia fight is Gonzaga won't be easy to submit.

Nog wins for sure. I reckon his boxing will prevail, and while Gonzaga has better BJJ credentials, i still feel that Nog has the best MMA jiu-jitsu on the planet. Nog's not gonna get KO'ed or subbed by Gonzaga, no one else has done it, and i don't think he would either.

Nog via a decision, in both 3 rounds and 5 rounds

I think Gonzaga takes it and I know I am probably going to get hated on for it but I don't think Nog could SUB Gonzaga and Nog has admitted that he has problems with kicks and I see Gonzaga giving him a lot of low kicks then going up high and finishing him off with a hk. Hate on me all you want that is how I see it.

Maybe, but this isn't "pure" BJJ, is it?

Nope, Werdum is better on top and on the bottom.

His hands are heavy, but his boxing is not even close to as good as Nogueira's, lets not forget that Gabe's cardio is lackluster, and that he relies too heavily on those kicks. Watch the Werdum fight, he punished Fabricio early with them, but once Fabricio figured out that those were all Gonzaga had standing, the pace of the fight changed completely.

You make a valid point about the elbows though, that's definitely something Nogueira hasn't had to face on the ground yet.

Gonzaga is my second favorite HW in the UFC but until he proves his cardio has improved I see Nog taking both a three rounder and five rounder. He would just wear him out and earn the dec with boxing imo

Nog is better standing, his boxing is good and more technical than Gabe.

Nog vs Gabe on the ground is a fun fight, but I can't see Gabe doing much to Nog. I do, however, see Nog controlling Gabe and pulling out a decision or a submission.

Nog by 3 or 5.

I couldn't disagree with you more. Nog is miles above and beyond anything that Gonzaga can offer. I'm not discounting Gonzaga, he's a great fighter, but he's not even in the same league as Nog.
