But to say it is ignorant to say he has no stand up or cardio because we havent seen him in a long fight for a while so we don't know what it is like, is ignorant. He has to prove to us that it has improved and from what I have seen it hasn't.

I mentioned the most common reasons alot of forum posters use to discredit Mir. From what ive read atleast.

And i beg to differ, I think a fight that happened over a year ago is irrelevant to a specific fighters current status.

There isnt a black and white answer as to when a past fight becomes irrelevant...but think about it this way:

Frank Mir is an intelligent guy and therefor has to be aware that cardio and striking have been issues in his game in the past. We can safely assume he is training to improve these aspects, thus making it unintelligable to assume he will come in as the same mir that fought, say Wes Sims, Or Brandon Vera.

I totally agree with this guy. People shouldn't count Frank Mir out of any fight and i hope he does become the H/W champ and im sure we will see a rematch with him and Brock which i think Brock will take this time round

I think after watchin the vid again that Mir is an intelligent guy with an accurate assessment of Nog and an accurate assessment of himself. The guy seems cool as hell and I hope he wins even though Nog seems like one of the nicest guys so its kinda hard to root against him.

I like Mir. Does he have some faults and some bad fights? Yup, pretty much like every other fighter out there.

What about the fact Mir has never and will never be a top HW?

He's a good submission guy, with average wrestling, horrible striking.

BTW I am a Mir fan but I also know how good he is.

After reading the hundred or so threads on this and various other mma forums regarding Mir and his upcoming title shot against Nog, i noticed alot of people discrediting him for ludicrous reasons that i feel obligated to dispute. All Mir shit talk is like a broken record and i will address these arguments now.

1) "Mir got beat by Pe De Pano, blah blah."

A true statement yes. But Pe De Pano's name is thrown around on this site like its ******* Eddie Sanchez or something. This man is a BJJ black belt under some bad ass mother ****er, and has actually BEAT WERDUM IN ADCC, thats right ladies. So this is far from the laughable loss it is made out to be. Also, this was Mir's return from the devestating motorcycle accident.

2) "Mir has no gas tank or stand up"

This would be an accurate statement if it were 2006. But the reality is we havent seen Mir's cardio or striking in action for over a few minutes since his decision win over Dan Christison at UFC 61. Granted the Nog fight will answer alot of questions about this topic, it is still ignorant and uninformed to make these inferences based on fights that happened over 2 years ago.

3.) "Nog is better than Mir at every aspect of the game."

On paper yes. But I have a feeling that Nog is getting past his prime. All those blows to his face over his entire career are starting to have a detrimental effect on his speed and reaction time. An effect that was made clear in the Herring fight and more so in the Sylvia fight. We all know Tim wouldnt have pwned his face for three rounds before getting subbed if this were a few years ago. I want to stress that i'm not a Nog hater: I respect what the man has accomplished in the sport and FTW, Nog vs Henderson 2 is one of my favorite MMA fights of all time. All im sayin is...if anyone in the UFC HW division could sub him at this point in his career, its Frank Mir. And the validity of this argument is something that even Mir himself has made apparent:

Mods...dont ban me for the sherdog link but its the only place i could find this interview where Mir clearly defines his position on the point i just stated.

So this aside, can anyone give me a LEGIT reason as to why Mir is consistantly dis-credited and ultimately over-looked as a serious contender in this fight, and even the HW division in general?
1.) Thats right ladies..????

2.) frank has done nothing to prove he wont gas or that his cardio is better and in his last fight i remember thinking he looked kinda winded.....

3.)Nog is

On a totally serious note I think that frank is at another place in his career where he could go on a nice run but at the same time there are alot of questions regarding his cardio not to mention striking and I have serious doubts that he can pull off the win........

dude was getting mauled by lesner and had the composure to submit him. now lesnar gets a title shot against randy. i'd say mir deserves his shot at nog. its not like its a real title shot. its more of a #1 contenders match. i'm pulling for mir... i always root against the brazilians, with exception of wandi. mirs last fight was lesnar and i dont think he looked winded. he did beat him in the 1st round. maybe afterwords he was breathing hard, but he did almost get hit ass kicked.

I actually scored the Christison vs Mir fight 29-28 for Big Dan. Mir almost got armbarred in that fight, too, and Big Dan, well, sort of sucks. Okay, he does suck.
