I am a little surprised he didn't lose his contract and if he wants to succeed he definately needs to get some new coaches.

He needs new coaches, a new camp... learn some ground skills and BJJ.

There was no way the UFC would sign him to a longer term contract and then kick him out after one fight. I like Houston but he has NO ground game, I mean none at all. Its like he has an off button on his back so when he gets put on his back he just stops being in the fight and waits to get submitted or have the ref step in.

He can be as confident as he wants, but he still NEEDS to learn a ground game. I appreciate that he likes to put on exciting fights, but honestly, if you're going to compete, you need to be able to compete at all levels.

Indeed, he's like a shark. Very nasty when moving forward but flipped upside down he gets disoriented and docile.

And is also easily defeated by a stout punch on the nose.

You will only continue to fail in MMA if you don't learn BJJ.
Seriously, learn to shrimp, learn what a guard is, learn how to stop your opponent from passing. I could even submit Houston.

For sure. He needs to add things to his training. IMO keep training striking like he is and work on his wrestling and BJJ. His take down defense is pretty good but it can be improved upon. Throw in some eddie bravo rubber guard xD and some good conditioning and he'll do a hell of a lot better against fighters like schaffer.
He is pretty old to be just starting the mma game (35 or 36??) but he can do it. He has bricks for hands and brings it every time.
He is still with the UFC because he is exciting.
