Ok...so I was a bit over zealous with my analysis of GSP vs Penn. I just really think that Penn is incredibly skilled and if he came into a fight with his head and body all the way into it then he can beat either one of them.

It's Hughes.

To be the best you've got to beat the best. Georges can be considered #1 when/if he topples Hughes.

GSP did a clench and pray in the 3rd. Finally got a takedown didn't land anything got caught in an omoplata. GSP got the W in the win column but he did not beat BJ.

BJ Penn is the number 1 Welterweight.
Every word in this post is right on the money!

True that...but just cuz he "won" doesn't mean he was the better fighter. The question was who is the best welterweight, not who has won more fights. It was a split decision man...that's basically meaningless in terms of who is the better fighter.

It's seriously a toss up between Georges St. Pierre and B.J. Penn. I think Matt Hughes got VERY lucky in his first fight with GSP at UFC 50: The War of '04 and he got lucky in the second fight vs B.J. Penn, since Penn hurt his rib and pretty much gassed out. But my vote goes to Georges St. Pierre.

My Favourite Fighters

Vitor Belfort
Fedor Emelianenko
Georges St. Pierre
Wanderlei Silva
Rich Franklin
Mark Kerr
Chuck Liddell

I don't think you can say it is meaningless, however, I agree that it's not solid.
