George Gurgel

Curtis Clontz talks about George Gurgel on the site.

Any thoughts on the article or the fighter?

Jorge hasn't impressed me as a fighter. The only fight I was somewhat entertained was his last fight against Cole Miller, and he still lost! Honestly, if he wasn't so close to Rich Franklin, I don't know that he'd be fighting in the UFC.

Doesn't he spell it Jorge? I know thats confusing though because some hispanics with the name Jorge also pronounce it Hor-hay like Jorge Rivera.

Everybody good, plenty of slaves for my robot colony?

Yeah, I spelled it wrong.

If he pronounced it Hor-hay, I wouldn't have had that issue.

Damn Anglocizations.

Why does the guy get so much smoke blown up his arse re: his ground game when he persists to stand & strike?

I really don't understand it, he obviously is good but just doesn't use it. If I remember right, he got subbed his last fight after standing with the guy for most of it. Weird.

I'm with you on this one. You never know on the ground, though.

He wants to be like his buddy Rich Franklin. It's just that Rich actually knows how to strike, while Gurgel really doesn't.

And man, you sort of have to admire Gurgel. The guy knows he's only there because he's Rich Franklin's butt buddy, and he is totally unashamed about it.

That's rather suspect considering he *allegedly* has the tools to be there on his own merits. I can't really remember him actually having a ground war, so hopefully they do match him with Diaz to see how good he really is. Plus, I'd love to see Nate being subbed, man that would be the shit!

could you imagine BJ Penn vs Jorge Gurgel..?

It would be the most one sided fight ever! BJ Penn is better in every single department, Gurgel would probably verbally tap-out in the 1st round...
