Next Generation : Young New Jersey MW's

New Jersey has not been a major MMA area. It was basically known for Ricardo Almedia's gym for a long time.

Now a little while ago Frankie Edgar started to make an impact but up until now that was it.

However starting at UFN 15 New Jersey is having some young guys make an impact in the UFC.

Dan Miller and Mike Massenzio both debut and had nice first round submission victories. They both have 2nd fights set up Miller against Horwich and Mike against CB.

Miller is the last IFL MW champion and amazingly talented with submissions.

Massenzio is a former college wrestler with a lot of submission skills.

Now besides those 2 talented MW's at UFC 91 another young Jersey MW named Nick Catone will make his debut against Amir. Catone is a talented D-1 wrestler and has been training with Almedia improving his BJJ game.

Catone could give Amir a lot of trouble.

Two of these guys Catone and Massenzio have serious wrestling credentials. The other one Dan Miller has some seriously sick submissions.

Here are some videos that I found with these guys in them.

Dan Miller
IFL Debut
Wins IFL MW championship
UFC debut

Mike Massenzio
Mike vs Drew Mcfedries

No videos of Catone online that I can find atm.

Im a Jersey guy and its nice to see more MMA goin on around here. I even have a few friends that fight at small local gyms and it is cool to have enough influence that even people that arent gifted enough to make it big still have an opportunity to train and have fun.

Yea for a small state Jersey has a lot of gyms and it's fantastic.

I mean there are 2 BJJ gyms within 5 minutes of my house. has Miller's latest fight. So far Young Jersey MW's are 3-0 with wins over Mcfedries, Kimmons, and Horwich.

Catone has Amir at 91 and Massenzio takes on CB at 92. I think both are going to take their fights.
