To All of You Running Your Mouths

The more I read about this, the more I can't believe you guys who are talking about how crazy Anderson is.

Really think about the impact of this decision, think about what this means for the sport and think about what this decision changes (or will change in 2009).

In case the implications are totally beyond you, I've tried to lay them out in less than 600 words, though I could have, honestly, done well over a thousand, I just wasn't sure people would read it.

As always, on MMAOpinion.com.

Maybe Anderson won't get fat, then he'll renegotiate a sick contract.

*edit* Ironman, I read your article, and have downloaded the clip but have not heard it. You said "That is not to say that there would not be challengers to his title if he were to remain, but the reality is that we will not recognize the challengers as legitimate, nor their chances as substantial."

Just thought I'd disagree, and assert that I thought both Marquardt and Hendo were legitimate challengers with substantial chances to win. I would see them that way again in the future if they had a title shot coming to them.

Really? If Hendo and Marquardt got title shots again you would see them as legit contenders?

Honestly, I wouldn't. Maybe Hendo, but not if he continues to perform the way he did against Palhares.

Realistically, Anderson is a massive favorite against anyone in the world right now, and well he should be. The only fighter left that would make for an interesting matchup is a guy he's not going to fight, Paulo Filho.

I'm not opposed to Anderson resigning, but there's something to be said for a guy having the intelligence to stop fighting while still holding the belt, instead of retiring as many of the legends of old (Tito, Chuck, Wanderlei and, perhaps more painfully, Ken Shamrock and Royce Gracie).

Anderson Silva is intelligent enough to know he doesn't want to be a joke five or ten years from now.

He's probably bored. I mean, how is Silva supposed to get hyped up for fighting Cote? Seriously...

I really want to see him fight Maia and Okami. So long as those fights take place, I'll be happy enough.
