Andy is nobody's warm-up gift. I don't know if you followed IFL at all but he is a force with great wrestling and GnP and presented a serious threat to Vera on the ground. So it was in Vera's absolute best interests to be cautious and avoid being taken down at all costs.
Say what you want about an exciting loss getting you further, but I am pretty sure he would have been told to go get a win elsewhere if he had lost to Andy. Rarely does Dana let a three loss streak slide. And he's still in the UFC so I guess the cautious performance didn't hurt him too much.
