Gambling Question; UFC 90 *SPOILER*

Okay, maybe this is a stupid question...

If I picked "Cote to shock the world" at 3 to 1 odds against my friends who pick Silva to win...

Who wins this bet?

I put down $100 against 2 friends, figuring, yeah, okay, I'll fork out 2 bills if I lose, but I'll make 6 if I win...

We were watching the fight and Cote's knee popped, and both the guys were like "holy ****, I can't believe that just happened..."

So I say "Oh, so you're shocked..."

Then they look at me and say nothing...

Cote lost, Silva won, But Cote shocked the world...

I don't owe them each a bill do I?

I'm not trying to ***** out of this bet, I'm just playing the semantics card... Am I wrong? Cote definitely has a loss on his record, but he did shock the world... Who expected that?

Man, that's what I thought, but Silva got the win by TKO...

I thought that was messed up.

Call the bet off imo, Silva didnt beat Cote in the manner you placed the bet on, and cote didn't shock the world in the manner you meant.

If i made that bet with mates, we'd call it off straight away, no questions asked.

Did I mean that Cote would have a freak accident? No, absolutely not, but I never said Cote would win... just that he would shock the world.

I agree though, just because getting cash from these two over an obscurity in semantics will be like getting blood from a stone. Kinda sucks though...

I think you loose, it was a pre-existing injury, so not a shock!

And no, it should not have been a no contest! If that is the case, when loosing a fight in the final round a fighter can fall and claim to have blown a knee. Injury=loss!

I don't know if your two friends make up your whole world, but I myself amongst others wasn't shocked, just mildly surprised, so Côté didn't at least shock the world in any real sense.

And it shouldn't have been a NC. Every single time a fighter has to throw in the towel due to an injury that isn't inflicted by an illegal blow from the opponent, it's a TKO loss.

Just do the right thing and pay your friends their money.
