Was Silva toying with Cote? Your thoughts.

Part of me thinks he was, part of me doesn't. I think he was a bit leery of Cote's power, but if that's the case, why wasn't he cautious against Irvin, who's got a ton of power himself?

Frankly I don't got a clue, cause this was a weird fight, I think Anderson was a bit off today and I don't know what it was.

Your thoughts.

Irving went straight for that stupid kick and got laid out, there wasnt time for him to be leery, It was just a matter of Cote not being the aggressor, Irving went after Silva and got knocked out, Silva never went after Irvin, Silva wants his opponent to come after him and even tryed showboating to try and get Cote to do so.

I agree with this. I'm not really sure, hopefully it gets cleared up with some interviews. In the first round he was like walking sideways for 3+ minutes of the fight, and even like rap a mini-lap. It was weird

Silva himself answered this at the press conferance, he said his strategy was to throw Cote off so he couldnt find him, he said he comes to do his job he doesnt come to play and his future opponents better realize that.

As well as being a strategy maybe he wanted the fight to last that bit longer... I got the feeling he was gonna go for the kill in the 3rd before it ended. In the post fight interview he said he trained/sparred backstage to expend some energy. I think if your as talented as anderson then the choice is yours when it ends. Plus I love the whole dancing and moving he does, I think it adds tension because you know when he decides to strike, he's gonna hurt you! Legend.

EDIT: He trained/sparred backstage after the fight.

The whole fight was BS. I don't know if he was toying with him or not but it sure seemed like it.

Anderson's showboatig was IMO a strategy to try and put Cote off his game and get him to make a mistake. That it didn't really work is a testament to Cote and his resolve to compete.

I don't know if he was toying with him, but I believe he was trying to make Cote come after him.

I think he was definitely toying with him. I think part of Anderson's job is to put on a good show. I think he had a comfort level with Cote that he could relax and pace himself while getting into Cote's head and giving the fans more than the Irvin fight. I think there are guys that *think* they are at that level of the game and scarily I think Anderson *is* at that level of the game. The whole fight I felt that Cote was subject to Anderson's whim. I do agree, hats off for Cote for not appearing to be bothered by Anderson's tactics.
