The HW division is starting to look great

As we all know, the HW division is known to be the least talented division in the UFC. However, recently there has been a giant influx of talent that makes it seem to be raising to new found glory.

The original point of the HW tournament that was annonced recently was the make it more exciting and give it time to heal, and it seems to be working great.

Gonzaga is going to be on the next card, and will destroy another can, which should finally erase his previous losses from memory (if his last fight arleady didn't). He also was in unbelievable shape last fight and if he keeps it up may be even better then the GG that raped Cro Cop.

Junior just made an emphatic statement on the division, and if you watch his fights you'll know he is the real deal and didn't just Houston Alexander Werdum.

Ofcoure we still have Werdum himself, who is an extrordanary HW who just got caught (happens to the best). Look for him to still be a big force if he handcuffs himself to a treadmill.

EXC is finally dead and the UFC may pick up Giant Silva, how is a major HW prospect ATM.

Kongo is also being fed a can, probably to be given time to develop a ground game. I don't expect much from him but others do so I felt obliged to mention it. I guess he can knee Nog in the balls really hard.

Obviously we have Carwin, who is essentially a better version of Lesnar and will be destroying fools for a long time. Great talent with enormous potential.

Cane has been on a tear, and seemingly will continue to do so. Same boat as Carwin.

Then onto the division itself

Couture is finally back, which really helps strengthen the big name value in the HW division, as well as the talent pool.

Lesnar is a guy with load of talent, and probably the best athlete in the division, maybe even the UFC. However he hasn't been impressive as of late and seems to be a step behind guys with simmilar credentials like Carwin. However, he will be an extreme force in the next few years.

We have Couture vs. Lesnar itself which should be utterly fantastic, and I see Randy beating Brock, which will be another "beating all odds" performance. Ofcoure Lesnar can win, but I just don't see it happening.

Nogeuira is Nogeuira, so I think that says enough about him in the HW division.

Mir is a solid talent, but he will never be champion again and I honestly don't even think he could beat Lesnar in a rematch. Still solid addition to the divison though.

Then we have Nog vs. Mir, which is essentially Nog being given a win and setting up in my mind Nog vs. Randy for the title which can go either way, but I got Randy in this one.

Damn, the HW division is looking good. Thoughts?

you throw around "can" too much...josh hendricks is not a can...is he potentially contender material? no...but he's not a can.

Choice of words = not so great. I would be so excited if Big Foot joined the UFC, and it seems that it is becoming a pretty good division.

You're such a ******* tool. Get over your boy Cro Cop, he's done. Kongo smashed his ribs in and beat him fair and square.

The division has picked up a lot in the last few months. The UFC has really beefed up the division by signing up a bunch of new fighters. A couple like Brock Lesner, Junior dos Santos, Cain Valasquez and Shane Carwin have proven to be valuable additions and have already made names for themselves.

Plus they got Randy Couture back. Now with this mini tournament going on there is more attention and interest in the division. Its not a bad division by any means.

Here are all of their HW fighters I can think of.

Randy Couture (Champion)
Minotauro Nogueira (Interim Champion)
Frank Mir
Brock Lesner
Cheick Kongo
Gabriel Gonzaga
Junior dos Santos
Frabricio Werdum
Cain Valasquez
Antoni Hardonk
Shane Carwin
Heath Herring
Eddie Sanchez
Jake O’Brien
Christian Wellisch
Justin McCully
Dan Evenson
Neil Wein
Josh Hendricks (Making his debut)
Mustapha Al-Turk (Making his debut)

So they got 20 in total with top level, middle and lower level fighters with fututre prospects thrown into the mix. Thats the recipe for a healthy and solid division right there.

The HW divison has improved but it's still not very good. a lot of potential though.

Velasquez is an amazing talent.

Dos Santos and Carwin have both looked good.

Lesnar has a bright future.

Jake O'brien and Mustapha Al Turk are both solid fighters IMO as well.

Now they only have 3 top HW's in Nogueira, Couture, and Werdum.

Exept that werdum right now can't be RANKED as a top 5 HW i fully agree with you. IMO, Carwin, Velasquez and maybe Brock ate top ten material. Usually I don't like wrestlers too much but these guys freakin' uses wrestling the way it should be used: Nasty top jitz game and GnP (not Brock, yet though).

Werdum isn't top 5 but he's still a top HW. I would rank him at 6 moving him behind Sylvia.

I mean he recently beat Gonzaga and has a win over Aleks E.
